I am going to be writing a summary about Rules of The Game. The story starts out with MeiMei, and her mom. When MeiMei was 6, her mom taught her the art of invisible strength, which led her to win some chess games later on. They lived in San Francisco’s Chinatown. MeiMei thought that her family was rich because she ate a lot everyday. Then, Christmas came. Her brother, Vincent, got a chess set, which MeiMei was very interested in. She ask her brother about all the rules and he would explain them to MeiMei. Then, she would practice everyday, and she got help from an old man at the park. Then she got so good, her mother would have her practice chess and make her not do the chores and leave all the chores to her brothers. She started showing MeiMei around like a trophy, because MeiMei was very good at chess. Then, MeiMei got annoyed and told her mother to stop showing her around, and told her to get better at chess. Her mother got angry, and then MeiMei hit an old woman by accident and ran away. When she got home, her mother had a punishment for her. No dinner. And she went to her room, and practice more chess.

How I am Mentally Strong
Being mentally strong is important for one to have a stable life. I am mentally strong by trying my best to not be jealous, ignoring what makes me irritated, and looking for the positive side. Doing these things helps me focus on my life, not others’ amazing lives. Also, jealousy usually always makes situations worse, and I typically start hating someone once I am jealous. Ignoring what makes me irritated helps me avoid being pissed off by other things. Being positive greatly helps me forget everything else, so I will not worry about my friends and relatives. In conclusion, I think not being jealous, ignoring irrational thoughts and feelings, and being positive greatly helps me be mentally strong.
Why is Getting the Proper Amount of Sleep Important
Many people know that sleep is important, since there can be very severe consequences if someone doesn’t sleep. Although they know that fact, some people still do not get enough sleep, and others do not know that oversleeping is also just as harmful as not getting enough sleep. To sleep well, people have to make sure they get the right amount of sleep, which is very important for their health.
Sleep deprivation is very harmful to people. Without enough sleep, the brain and body systems won’t function normally. There can be many long-term effects from sleep deprivation. Some examples include memory issues, mood changes, high blood pressure, and weakened immunity. If the person not getting enough sleep is a student, this can lower their performance level in school and even decrease the student’s marks. Also, being drowsy during the day can increase a person’s risk for car accidents and injuries from other causes. This shows that sleep deprivation will put one’s physical health and mental abilities at risk.
Oversleeping can also be as damaging as sleep deprivation. There are many health risks and effects associated with sleeping too much. People who find themselves sleeping for too long might eventually have to deal with diabetes, heart disease, obesity, depression, and headaches. Too much sleep also has a negative influence on the neurotransmitters within people’s brains. These neurotransmitters are important since they regulate many necessary functions and play an important role in the body.
Oversleeping and not getting enough sleep put the people not getting the proper amount of sleep at risk. There’s many health risks associated with too much or too little sleep. This shows how important it is to get the proper amount of sleep every night.
3 Tips for Better Sleep Habits
Sleep is a very important part of everyone’s lives. But not everybody knows exactly how much they should sleep. Each person actually has a different amount of time they should sleep. The number of hours someone should spend sleeping also changes between age groups. Infants and young children should get more sleep, while older people should get less sleep. It mostly depends on the person. Even though it might be hard to figure out your own sleep style, there are three tips that can help.
The first tip is that you might be trying too hard to get too much sleep. There’s a difference between being tired and being sleepy. Being sleepy means that your body needs to get sleep, but being tired means having low energy or being mentally exhausted. If you feel sleepy, then get sleep. If you can’t fall asleep, then use that time for something else.
The second tip is to get more sleep if you aren’t getting enough sleep at night. This can be caused by just generally not getting enough sleep. It can also be caused by a sleep disorder. If you have a sleep disorder, then you should go to a doctor, as sleep disorders can damage your health. Another reason could be that your sleep schedule is messed up. If this is the case, the next tip will help you the most.
The third and final tip is wake up at certain time consistently. It’s also important to have the amount of sleep you get be consistent. Sleeping for different amounts of time or waking up at different times can confuse your body, which can cause sleepiness or insomnia. The most important thing though, is to wake up at the same time or around the same time every day.
Everyone has a different body, and should get their own sleep schedule. It might be a little difficult to make the change and start sleeping consistently, but it will be worth it. Getting the right amount of sleep is important. It’s not healthy to get too little sleep, but it isn’t health to get too much sleep either. Find a balance, and you will feel better.
Something I want to change about myself
Everyone wants to change but something I want to change about myself is my screen time on any electronic device. Too much screen time may cause eye damage. Why I don’t want to have too much screen time because I might get glasses and we all know glasses are somewhat annoying and cost a lot of money.
The reason why I want to change the amount of screen time I get is that I don’t want to get my eyes damaged or wear glasses. Which are both something I don’t want to have. Another reason is that I don’t want to get addicted because I spend too much time on the screen.
Glasses are to help them get better eyesight. One day I noticed my eyes feeling different and weird. I asked my mom and she said. Lots of words can out of her mouth. Most were about screen time. That day I had set a goal for myself, a big goal. That goal was to limit my screen time for 1 hour. When I thought about it I was like……….this is going to take me a while to succeed.
Now I am sitting in a chair this very moment and still thinking how did I not succeed for just an extra 1 hour of screen time? I feel very bad that I didn’t succeed. Even though it was a tough challenge. After days I still try, but still nothing.
So something I want to change about myself is using up less screen time. The struggles I had and hope I am more responsible with my screen time.
Analysis of “Rules of the Game”
In the story “Rules of the Game,” Waverly lives with her two brothers. After one of her brothers brings home a chess set, Waverly starts learning how to play.
Waverly gets better and better at playing chess, but whenever she wins, her mother says that it is just luck. This is different from some parents because normally a parent would want to encourage their child. It almost seems like Waverly’s mom doesn’t want to give Waverly credit. This would make sense because their relationship is not the best. Waverly’s mother tries to boss Waverly around and shows her off to everyone. When Waverly learned to play chess, she found that she had control over every single piece, including the king and the queen. At the end of the story, Waverly ends up standing up to her mother and referring to her as a chess piece.
Chess is a unique game. It requires more of thinking and planning rather than strength. It is what Waverly’s mother refers to as “sometimes the strongest wind is invincible.” Sometimes if you are quiet but plan ahead you can get farther in life than those who don’t.
The author uses a lot of symbolism in the story using the game chess. It represents those who have “invisible strength.”
The Relationship between Waverly and her Mother
The relationship between Waverly and her mother in the short story Rules is very complicated. The mother is overprotective and wants to control the daughter, while the daughter refuses to be controlled. This causes them to constantly be annoyed with each other.
One Christmas, Waverly’s brother Vincent got a chess board from their church. Waverly played a few times with her brothers and became really good at coming up with strategies. She played with some older people in a neighborhood park and learned even more strategies. She starts beating everyone there and her mother enrolls her into a competition. Soon, her face is in magazines and newspapers.
Waverly’s mother likes to watch her as she thinks of more strategies because she thinks of herself as a protective ally. Waverly, however, cannot focus when she does that. But, the mother gets angry when she tells her to leave. After some time, her mother starts telling everyone on the streets that Waverly is her daughter and Waverly cannot stand it. When Waverly tells that to her mother, she takes it the wrong way. She thinks that Waverly is ashamed to be her daughter and gets really mad. Then, Waverly runs away.
As you can see, Waverly and her mother do not have a perfect relationship with each other. In fact, they are kind of enemies. The mother wants to take control of the daughter and the daughter wants to avoid that. So their relationship is kind of like a cat and a mouse. Forever chasing each other.
Rules of the Game
Rules of the Game is a good short story by Amy Tan. It is about a girl named Wave-ly Jong and how she became a chess master. It is an interesting short story and I hop
One day her brother won a chessboard at the secret Santa at the church. They soon found out that it was missing two pieces so the boys used buttons instead. She would plead her brothers to let her play. One day the boys gave in and let her play. She decided to use her lifesavers instead of the buttons so that whoever wins gets to eat it. She soon learned much from her brother and the library books that she had borrowed.
One day, she brought the chess set and asked an old man if he wanted to play. The man was delighted. She lost many lifesavers but learned all the skills that the old man had known. Shortly, she started playing in local tournaments. She had won her first trophy and a new chessboard. when she goes back home, her mom scolded her saying next time to win more and lose less.
At the next tournament, she won again. Her mom told her that this time she lost 8 pieces; last times was 11. She quickly won all the games and in all the divisions. After she won a regional tournament, all the shops wanted to sponsor her in the next tournament. She was even on the front cover of the magazines. After that, her mom decided she didn’t have to do any chores, so her brothers had to do it.
When she practiced, her mom would always be looking at her making a “humph” noise with her nose. She was able to make her brothers sleep in the living room because she could focus when sleeping, and she didn’t have any chores, though there is one that she could never get away from. Going shopping every Saturday with her mom.
At the mall, if she had seen anyone looking in her direction, she would say this is my daughter Wave-ly Jong. one day when they were walking out she said to her mom why do you have to embarrass me like that? Why do you show off like that? Then she took off running. When she got home no one cared about her. She went to her bedroom and laid on the bed “Strongest wind is not seen” echoing through her mind as she closed her eyes and pondered her next move.
This short story is very interesting to me. I think that Wave-ly Jong didn’t deserve what her mom had done to her. I hope you read this story and I hope you like it.
Why the World Follows No Rules
One can fight through terrors of hardship, yet never have anything good happen to them. One might be spoiled and selfish, but they’re extremely lucky. Somebody probably won a lottery their first try, while another has gotten no luck for many years. The world is very mysterious. Amy Morin’s TedTalk The Secret of Becoming Mentally Strong and the article How Much Sleep Do You Really Need? show how the world follows few to no rules.
Amy Morin was a mentally strong individual who endured through the pain of losing three loved ones in just a few years. One of the many strategies to maintain mentally strong Amy told the audience is to not expect the world to pay one back. After Amy lost two family members, she thought the world could not get any worse, but it did, which furthermore lowered her mental strength. Failing in many tests does not guarantee one will pass another day. Having multiple family members die does not mean the world will pay one back. A terrible person might even be rewarded. The world can be unforgivably merciless or too kind. The truth is, the world is based highly on mere luck. Having good luck makes the world nice, while bad luck renders the world evil. Anybody of any type can have bad or good luck. A life-saving doctor might be given the worst luck, while the cruelest murderer might have good luck. The world follows no rules and is not fair.
How much sleep is required for the average human? Start at eight hours, give or take a few depending on the age. Maybe add some more time if one has a special condition. This is one of the many questions with no definite answer. The article stated how the recommended sleep time for a newborn was from 11-18 hours, and the recommended time for an elderly person was around 5-9 hours. When one takes a closer look at these numbers, it is obvious that the range is extremely high. Two people of the same age might have a 5-hour difference in their average sleep times, which might be enough time for another person. Everyone has their own sleep schedule, which will eventually change depending on the situation. During school, the amount of sleep will be a few hours less than the amount of sleep during Summer break. The world’s tendency to break rules provides no definite answer to numerous questions. How much water should one drink? How long should one exercise for? How much should one eat? Even if one follows the world’s everchanging “rules”, it is not guaranteed one will succeed.
The world is a strange place, where rules and fairness fade away. Nothing is guaranteed. Living through hardships does not say the world will smile one day. Having the perfect life does not mean it will one day curve away. There are many unanswered question, waiting to be answered, if possible. Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft, once said, “Life is not fair; get used to it.” Today, Bill Gates is one of the technological leaders of the world, and who knows if luck was on his side during his journey to success.
My Thoughts On Rules of the Game.
I have many thoughts on the short story, Rules of the Game. I like some parts and don’t like some parts.
The first thing I like about the story is that it was way more realistic than the other stories. I think this is more realistic than the other stories because the this one did not have any exarated parts nor did it have any parts that have a super low chance of happening.
The second thing I liked about the story is that it discribes what the characters are doing very well. One example of this happening is when she is at the church and it says what each of the people are doing.
The thing I don’t like about the story is that it it doesn’t really tell us how any of the buildings look like. For example the story talks a lot about a restrant but dosen’t really say what it looks like.
