Death

Death is a thing everyone fears,

It is the brother of life and rebirth.

Just like day sprouts from night,

Life springs from day.

Death is not the final word, nor is it the end,

It’s just merely a separation.

Death is inevitable, you can’t avoid it,

It’s like a kid that never wants to grow up.

When death comes, you’re released from pain, bother, and anxiety,

Just like an erne flying freely in the sky from afar.

Why Bill Driscoll is weak

Bill is weak! Bill is weak because in the story of the ransom of red chief, he was being beaten by a 10 year old boy that he kidnapped with Henry. First, Bill was put on the floor and Johnny(the 10 year old boy) had tried to take Bill’s scalp away and would have succeeded if Henry hadn’t stopped him.

Second, when Henry went back into the cave, he saw Bill on one side of the room breathing hard and the Johnny threatening to smash Bill with a rock half as big as a coconut. Bill would’ve been smashed to bits if Henry hadn’t stopped Johnney again.

Last but not least, Johnny drew a slingshot and got Bill with it behind the left ear and Bill gave a sign and fell into the fire across the pan of hot water for washing the dishes.

Those are a few of the reasons why Bill Driscoll is weak but it still proves why Bill Driscoll is weak.

The Ransom of the Red Chief

The Ransom of the Red Chief is a short story written by O. Harry, it talks about how a pair of kidnappers, Bill and Sam, kidnapped a citizen’s son. The kidnapped son then pretends to be Red Chief, even attacking Bill. The Red Chief doesn’t like his house, he loves camping and isn’t afraid to be with Sam and Bill. Sam sends Red Chief’s9 dad an ransom note, demanding 2000 dollars in return for Red Chief. The man who receives the letter, however, knows that his son is a burden and a nuisance. He knows that Red Chief must be driving Sam and Bill insane. He says he will take Red Chief off Bill and Sam’s hands for 250 dollars. Bill and Sam are reluctant, but are forced to do this due to insanity.

COVID-19 Deaths Counted

When the Corona Virus hit the United States, many do not know whether they have the COVID-19 or not. Many do not take the testing and there is still no sign of how many people did get the Corona Virus. If one gets the disease, there is no telling if you live or die.

In Florida, there are some accusations that there are unreported deaths so that there are many more who died instead of just the reported deaths of the people. When people get the COVID-19, it is complicated. There is no death immediately when you get the virus, but you can survive without going to the doctors and stay alive.

If one is will die from the virus, the death certificate is signed by the surgeon who was taken care of the patient. There will be a cause of death and a time of death on the piece of paper.

One will know if they have the Corona Virus if the lungs are much heavier than usual. This is how the doctors use to detect if you have the disease. COVID-19 has many symptoms and now it is known to also have blood clots that can kill the patients and the people. The symptoms can cause other diseases such as strokes and heart disease and others that can kill.

The deaths are being under-reported because they sometimes are covered up by the government, hospitals, and the physician who was responsible for the patient. The people at the top such as the government does not want the people to panic and be afraid so they do not report everything. We the people deserve to know the whole truth because a half-truth is a lie.

This article is a great piece that was coming from real people who quoted it and has the truth. One will like this and the truth will always bring better to give people to prepare and stay strong.

“The Void”

Black hole, the place where time disappears,

The place of lost ambitions, hopelessness, and despair.

“The Ocean of Dark” is what they call it,

A blanket of blackness covered the stars.

You drift away faster and faster into the void,

Neither it’s ground nor is it the sky.

It is a pitchblack paradise, where all things were sucked in,

Tik tok, tik tok, one can’t even realize the time.

The one thing that allow humanity to discovers this whirlpool is curiosity,

I feel my soul flowing in the river of stars.

The light shattering the sky, piercing the horizon,

While the endless abyss brings darkness to your eyes.

Everyone knows that feelings are perfectly natural and okay, but they’re also very important to have in order for a society to function well. Shirley Jackson demonstrates this in her short story “The Lottery”, in which every year, a small town picks by lottery one person to stone to death.

In the story, a woman named Tessie Hutchinson is selected in the lottery. When she is selected she fights it, saying that it isn’t fair and isn’t right. Everyone, even her family, is deaf to her protests and proceeds to stone her anyway, no qualms about it, because it’s a tradition. This shows that these people are detached from the concept of death and the feelings that surround it, and the emotions of other people. Though undoubtedly people die of natural causes outside of the lottery, the townsfolk feel nothing and think nothing of it, as is shown by the unhesitating murder of Tessie. They lack empathy, and don’t have much attachment or real feeling towards one another at all.

However, Tessie isn’t exempt from this absence of feeling. Tessie does protest when she is picked, but until then, she was calmly chatting with her neighbors like she would had she met them at the grocery store. To all of them, this yearly execution is a normal event, just something to do and be over with, like grocery shopping.

This lack of feeling is also self-sustaining. If the parents lack attachment, empathy, and real feeling, so will the children. When Tessie’s family is drawn in the lottery and she realizes she might die, she tries to volunteer her married daughter’s family in her place. And near the end of the story, just before the stoning begins, it is shown that the adults and the children have stones, and somebody gives her little son, who needed help to draw a paper from the lottery box, a stone too.

There is no doubt that a society that meaninglessly, thoughtlessly kills its innocents and forces the children of the one to die to participate- and teaches them that there is nothing wrong about it- is very, very messed up, and in this story’s case all of it stems from the lack of attachment and real feeling between the townspeople. Therefore, the conclusion can be drawn that emotions are good and functional, natural and important- but should not be given control, lest the story starts to twist the other way.

Essay

We talked about the bad tradition in ‘The Lottery’ today. That reminds me of one tradition in China, which is not good but not dangerous.

People like to urge guests to drink and add many dishes into guests’ bowls when they are having a big dinner together. Most people will think they are displaying their enthusiasm and being polite to guests. But I think it makes guests, especially foreign guests, embarrassed. Because some guests may not good at drinking but they do not want to be impolite, they only can drink much even though they are not feeling good. The tradition still has many followers in some traditional families to this day. And this tradition even shows on job markets or workplaces. When you are doing a deal with some big bosses, they said if you finish this glass of wine, I will sign the contract with you. You know you are not good at drinking but you do not have choice because you need to do your job. There are lots of people who damage their health because of this.

I think it’s hard to change that. But what I thought is we should not force our guests or cooperative partners to eat much or drink much. They have their own options. We can display our enthusiasm in other ways like we can prepare more dishes that guests might like. Or we can ask the partner if he can drink or not and treat each other equally.

To change some bad traditions is always a hot topic of debate. The older generation might think they follow the tradition for their whole life, there is nothing wrong with that. But we don’t think so. That’s called the generation gap. All in all. I think we should find a good way to change the bad tradition and make it become a good tradition.

The Lottery

In the short story The Lottery, by Shirley Jackson, it covers an annual tradition in a small isolated village. The villagers would draw a lottery, and whoever wins gets stoned to death. In the story, Tessie Hutchinson wins, and proceeds to protest before getting killed. One of the themes of this story is mob mentality. Nobody in the village disagrees with killing Tessie, even though they all knew her. Even she herself didn’t care until her family got chosen. Everyone just went along with it because that’s what everyone else did, until they’re the one getting stoned, at which point it was already too late.

The Lottery

In “The Lottery” by Shirley Jackson, a story is told of a traditional lottery in a small, secluded town. However, as the story builds up, it becomes increasingly clear that this lottery is not a normal, modern lottery, and instead, the winner gets stoned to death. The author uses many ways to make the story seem like a happy, children’s story at first, including the setting, the use of children, and one’s own family.

The setting and environment of the lottery day is described in detail in the opening sentence of the story. Jackson writes, “The morning of June 27th was clear and sunny, with the fresh warmth of a full-summer day; the flowers were blossoming profusely and the grass was richly green.” Upon first impression, this gives the reader a positive, welcoming feeling that they are about to read a story with a happy ending. Furthermore, as the story goes on, the author describes how there are children at play, laughing and smiling. Based on an average reader, these described settings would all allow for a warm, summery day full of life and happiness instead of one with death.

Secondly, the use of children in the story leads readers to believe in a positive outcome in the story. Children in society are often seen as harmless and symbols of youth and innocence. It would be downright wrong to assume that the children would assist in the murder of an innocent women just for the sake of an old tradition. However, this is exactly what happens, leading to an unexpected turn of the story. The children are described to be playing with one another, “their talk was still of the classroom and the teacher, of books and reprimands.” Through describing these children as normal children, it allows the author to make the readers believe in a normal lottery in the story.

Lastly, description of groups of families standing together seem to create an environment of trust and stability in the story. In our modern society, most families value each other’s lives, futures, and well-being. This seems to be the case in their town at first, with each family standing together with their children. However, in their society, when the lottery is complete, one person gets stoned to death. Their own family turns on them, joining in with the “mob mentality” to kill the winner of the lottery.

Through using the setting, children, and families of the story to her advantage, Shirley Jackson builds up the story, creating similarities to our modern society. However, as the story progresses, things begin to change, and eventually, their town seems similar to a barbaric, ancient type of town with death and rituals.

A great lottery

This story is about a fictional ritual where in a town, they “sacrificed” one person for the ritual. The lottery was when the people from the town each chooses a piece of paper from a box, and the person that chooses the piece of paper with the black dot is sacrificed and essentially stoned to death. This was done so they “could have good fortune and crops”. The main people in this story is Bill, and Tessie.

When they were choosing the box, Tessie was complaining because she claimed Mr. Summer, the guy doing the hosting the lottery didn’t give Bill enough time to choose the paper. (Note that Bill was choosing a paper for Tessie) Once everybody started to open up the paper, many people got blank so they were fine. However when it got to Tessie, Tessie’s paper wasn’t blank. It had a black dot. Then they started to stone her, and Tessie’s last words were “IT WASN’T FAIR!!”.

The moral of this story is that we shouldn’t always follow according to a old tradition, especially since the tradition could be bad and we shouldn’t do it anymore like the one in the story.
