How I am Mentally Strong

Being mentally strong is important for one to have a stable life.  I am mentally strong by trying my best to not be jealous, ignoring what makes me irritated, and looking for the positive side.  Doing these things helps me focus on my life, not others’ amazing lives.  Also, jealousy usually always makes situations worse, and I typically start hating someone once I am jealous.  Ignoring what makes me irritated helps me avoid being pissed off by other things.  Being positive greatly helps me forget everything else, so I will not worry about my friends and relatives.  In conclusion, I think not being jealous, ignoring irrational thoughts and feelings, and being positive greatly helps me be mentally strong.

A Good Man is Hard to Find

In “A Good Man is Hard to Find,” the Grandma is a very selfish person and does not think about her actions.  The Misfit, on the other hand, is a very thoughtful person and cares and at the same time does not care about people.  If the Grandma was thoughtful and not selfish, her family and her would not have been killed by the Misfit.  Honestly, both characters are quite bad, but only the Misfit actually has a good part about his personality.

How Coronavirus Deaths are Counted

Counting Coronavirus deaths is hard; one has to figure out whether the patient died from COVID or from a disease caused by COVID or the patient died with COVID.

I think the main reason why government officials count COVID-19 deaths is to see the chance of one with COVID of dying. Usually, officials have medical examiners confirm COVID-19 deaths to create more uniformity and clearer documentation.  Also, I think counting COVID deaths can help doctors know where they need to help, and where they do not need to help.

The Lottery

I think the lottery in “The Lottery”  is not a good tradition because the town stones one innocent person every year.  One’s fate is decided on the piece of paper that they draw.  If one draws his or her own name, they will be stoned by the townsfolk, including their children.  Imagine being murdered by your own family and friends! I strongly think that this “lottery” should not be allowed because it is an unfair way to decide if one lives or not.  One must be very unlucky to be stoned, for I think it is devastating for one to see their loved ones kill them.  Also, if the town kills one person every year, they may have less and less people in their town until only one person is left.  I think this because if they kill someone who still hasn’t had any daughters or sons, they may kill a whole generation.  Next, I think killing one for no specific reason is totally absurd.  It’s as if one is killing their friend just because they lost a bet or etc.

Present Day Protesting Verses Back-Then Protesting

In Martin Luther King Junior’s days, they protested by being reasonable.  Nowadays, the so-called “protesters” smash a lot of stores’ windows and steal the products because they said that it is “unfair”.  First of all, how is it unfair?  I mean, just because of some police officers- that are racist- why do they have to be nosy?  They may not know why people act the way they act.  For example, someone may “take”  one’s belongings without asking, but maybe that person said they could take it, only that person forgot about it.  Secondly, Martin Luther King Junior was fighting for a reasonable cause, but some protesters are now using this chance to get free money.  Lastly, these protesters are making a mess of our country, ruining stores, lives, and much more.  Back then, protesters proved their point by speaking strongly to make government officials make a change. Also, Martin Luther King Junior actually proved his point: He and his fellow protesters wanted freedom and an end to discrimination. Now, the actual cause of what the protesters want is inexact.

To conclude, Martin Luther King Junior’s protesting method is a more effective way to protest than the present day protesters’ methods.

Why Solitary Confinement Should Not Be Allowed!

In my opinion, solitary confinement should not be allowed because it may cause one to turn crazy and one to be tortured. For example, being alone for a long time may cause distress and depression.  During the Coronavirus, one may feel annoyed for not being able to play with friends or meet up with family members.  I was deeply heartbroken at the thought of not being able to go on playdates, only online meetings.  Even having to meet online is difficult, so being completely isolated is a more miserable thought.  Also, without meeting anyone for long periods of time may cause one to long for another glimpse of a human being.  One prisoner was so lonely that he looked under the doorway just to see if anybody came.  Only thinking about how painful this must have been for the prisoner may cause one to feel sympathy for them.  To conclude, solitary confinement, or pure torture, should not be used on prisoners, no matter how wicked they are.

Miss Awful

In the story, Miss Awful, Rodger loves school only because His teacher is nice and plays with his classmates during school time. Later, Rodger’s class have a substitute teacher, Mrs. Orville. Mrs. Orville is really strict and seems mean towards the students, resulting in the students calling her Miss Awful. On her last day of being the substitute teacher, Rodger’s class decides to get revenge on Mrs. Orville by tearing up her plant. Instead of getting angry at the students, Mrs. Orville does not do much other than stating the reasons why coming to school is a lucky thing to be able to do. I think that actually being grateful for the things, whether one likes it or not, is really important because one will understand and acknowledge that how one is quite lucky.

A Sound of Thunder

A Sound of Thunder is about five Time travelers going to hunt a Tyrannosaurus Rex. This group of travelers walk on the Path to avoid ruining any animals, plants, or history. The Path is an antigravity metal path that guides them to where they shoot the dinosaur. Eckels, one of the travelers, is astonished by the size of Tyrannosaurus Rex and goes back to the Time Machine to hide. On his way back, he accidentally slips off the Path and steps on a piece of mud and kills a butterfly. When the group heads back home, the man behind the desk changes, and the elected president is a different one than before.

I think the story is trying to show that even a small thing can make a big difference. For example, the butterfly changed who became president, a sign’s wording, a person’s job, etc. Also, when one chooses to disobey one’s parent, one may become untrustworthy, and when one is obedient and truthful, one will have a good reputation.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

I have never known anything about Mozart other than he started composing music at the age of nine. Mozart started his music career because his father was a professional musician. His father taught Mozart clavier pieces at the age of four. Wolfgang also had the ability to teach himself violin. The young master musician strained hard to advance beyond what his youth limited him to. So the entire family toured around Germany, France, and England. They performed for all sorts of people, and Mozart was exposed to new musicians and composers.

When Mozart was seventeen years old, he became a court musician for the Prince-Archbishop of Salzburg. It was a great opportunity – he was being paid to compose in nearly every possible musical genre, letting him flourish as a composer. But Mozart gradually grew bored and frustrated with the life and society in Salzburg, as well as the lack of opportunities for getting operas performed. He went to Paris to find new opportunities. Sadly, the Parisian musical world didn’t seem to take much notice of him. He ended up back in Salzburg. Later, his father had gotten him a position as a court organist.

After experiencing what it felt like to work together, Mozart decided to go to Vienna to work alone. Over the years, his fame spread wider and wider, and he became known as the best keyboardist in Vienna. He composed bunches of musical concertos, earn great deals of money from them.

Mozart was finding it hard to survive because Austria was at war. Mozart’s main source of income, the nobility, was going through a money drought. Mozart performed less and less in public; his fame was vanishing. He started borrowing money heavily from friends. At the end of the next year he had to take a position as chamber musician for the Emperor to earn enough.

He continually struggled for the next few years, taking long trips to other European cities to try and spark his fame again and make some cash. But it never seemed to work out for him. In 1790 things began to look hopeful. Mozart started working furiously, turning out new piece after new piece. His financial situation improved, and his music from this era is some of his most beloved. Then, as Mozart started a new piece, he fell ill. His wife helped nurse him as his illness grew worse and worse. At the age of 35, Mozart passed away to an unknown cause. Mozart left the world to be grateful for such treasured art.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

“The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” tells the story of Walter Mitty on a trip to town with his wife, Mrs. Mitty. In his fantasy world, Walter often is heroic and adventurous, but in real life he only runs errands every so often and doesn’t do anything exciting unlike his daydreams. In the beginning of the short story, Mitty pretends to be driving through a hurricane and on an iceberg. Then, when Mrs. Mitty starts yelling at him, he finally snaps back to reality, where she scolds him for driving too fast. After Mrs. Mitty left, Walter goes back to daydreaming, where he is a nurse and helps heal a millionaire banker who is a friend of Roosevelt.

I think this short story’s theme is that success and failure is examined through Mitty’s inability to live a fulfilling life, which causes him to retreat to an internal life full of images of conquest. Walter Mitty is neither exciting nor successful in his everyday life, whilst in his fantasy world, he is prosperous and is considered as hero and adventurer.
