gen z

Generation Z is the term defining anyone born from 1997 and 2012. Gen Z is very different from the generations before that came before. Although very young, they are such a powerful generation. Those a part of Gen Z have most likely been exposed to the internet for almost their whole life. Using the internet, this young generation can do so many things to make the world a better place.

The internet could be a very good or bad place. The positive effects of the internet are that there is information that someone may need. Yes, the internet is a very reliable source of information, but there are downsides to having such free access to the internet. On the deeper, darker side of the internet, young children can find very sensitive information, such as how to kill, kidnap, or rob someone. Also, the news can be alarming and cause panic and unrest among citizens. Most of the time, the headlines for the news reads something bad, like murders, robberies, diseases and more. News reports like these can actually be good in some ways. The younger generation use their platform to raise awareness about certain causes and hopefully make a difference. In fact, Gen Z has already started making long lasting changes to the world.

For example, a group of young people called the Parkland shooting activists. After a shooting occurred at Parkland High School, the survivors decided to make a change. A group of survivors got together, and organized the March For Our Lives. They gave many speeches, pushed for gun reform, and registered many people to be able to vote. These activists were so young, most of them couldn’t even vote. This shows that age doesn’t matter when making a change.

Another example of Generation Z fighting and changing the world, was with a man named George Floyd. He was a a 46-year-old black man, who was killed in Minneapolis. After the video of the murder was released, and many generations were furious, especially Generation Z. Thousands of young used the internet and social media to raised awareness of this crime. This generation, although very young, knows their rights, and were willing to fight for them. Hundreds, maybe even thousands of young teenagers and young adults helped protest and raise awareness about the mistreatment of black lives, and they really made a lasting impact on the police and the world.

These are only a few ways our young generation can and will change the world. As you can see, Gen Z has much potential to make the world a better place. It has happened already, many times, and I believe that it will continue to happen. The youngest of Gen Z are only 5 years old, how many more will step up in the years to come. Generation Z may be young, but they go through so much. Generation Z is the start of a new and better world.

landlady

The Landlady, written by Ronald Dahl, is a chilling and dark story about Billy Weaver, a seventeen year old buisnessman. Billy is trying to find a good place to stay after a long train ride. He spots a cozy looking place, and deserts his original plan to find the Bell and Dragon hotel. When he arrives, he comes to the conclusion that the owner of the place, and old lady, is a nice and harmless person. He was wrong, and sadly meets his fate after being poisoned by the lady with a cup of “tea”. This story The Landlady, is a tale about judging things based on what is on the outside.

There are many accounts where the main character Billy Weaver, stereotypes groups, people, and places. In the beginning, Weaver was briskly walking through the city, because according to him, buisnessmen are always brisk, and that was the key to their success. This was one way he was being cliche. Another time when Billy “judged a book by its cover”, was when he found the Bed and Breakfast Inn. When he peered through the windows, he saw the cozy interior and exterior of the house, so he decided to abandon his other plans and decided to stay at the Bed and Breakfast. He even saw the animals and was very pleased, as it meant that it “was a good sign in a place like this”. Another time Billy was greatly mislead was when he met the owner of the Inn. Billy thought that the lady was “off her rocker”, and “dotty”, which should have been enough for Billy to leave the Inn, but he did not. He saw that the owner was an old lady, who seemed like a “kind and generous soul”, so he came to the conclusion that she was not harmful. This caused Billy to think that he was safe, which later, he ironically was proven wrong. Throughout the whole story, Billy was greatly mislead countless of times by how things looked on the outside.

Billy’s actions throughout the story taught a very important lesson, to never judge a book by its cover, or to never stereotype. Billy was constantly judging things by their outer appearance, and these small actions eventually led to his death. So, Ronald Dahl teaches to never stereotype, whether it is negative or positive, because in the end, it will be harmful.

marco polo

Marco Polo is one of the greatest explorers to go down in history. He was a man of many things, a merchant, an explorer, and a writer. He is best known for his travels and descriptions to the Eastern part of the world. All of his travels are recorded on the book, The Travels of Marco Polo. This book describes the power and culture of the Eastern part of the world. Marco gave many Europeans a look into the wealth and greatness of the Mongolian Empire, and many other Asian countries.

Marco Polo was born into a wealthy merchant family, in Italy. Growing up, Marco was a very smart child. He was able to speak, write and read many languages. His mother had died when he was young, so he just usually waits for his uncle and father to come back from their merchant trips. When he was 15 years old, Kublai Khan, one of the greatest rulers the Mongolian Empire has ever seen, invited the Polos and priests to come to them. Unfortunately they only brought two priests, which was okay. When Marco was 17, he and his family and the priests set out on the long trip to China. They went by foot, and stopped by many cities to get refreshed and things they might need. The trip was so hard, the priests could not continue the trip, and went back. Finally, after much hardship, they arrived at the Mongolian Empire.

The Mongolian Empire was amazing. There were large parks, and huge buildings containing species of animals that no one has ever heard of. They had pipes in the ground giving the buildings cooling systems. People were clean, nice, and smelled good. For someone like Marco who has never seen such a place, it was like he “died and went to heaven”. As for Kublai Khan, was an amazing leader. He accepted the different beliefs and religions of the explorers and neighboring Empires. He was not land hungry or money hungry all the time, and respected the other people.

After 24 years, Marco returned to Italy and was jailed. His riches were illegally stolen, and he was thrown in jail. That is when he met a very famous writer friend, Rusticello, who wrote his stories of the amazing Mongolian Empire. Marco made sure to give no bias. After the publishing of the book, it caused much unrest. It is understandable that people would be skeptical. His stories sounded too good to be true and almost magical. Even when Marco was on his death bed, he was questioned about his stories, but he stuck with the truth.

I think that Marco Polo was truly an amazing Italian explorer. If i was a person living in Italy at the time, I would not have believed his stories either. Marco was unlike the explorers that came after him. Other famous explorers like Christopher Columbus were greedy, and enslaved the indigenous people he met. Marco Polo was far from this, and never had any intention of “taking over” the Mongolian Empire. Even after receiving much hate and backlash about his controversial book, he was calm and collected, for he knew that in the years to come, people will eventually find out the truth.

sleep

How much sleep does a person really need? What causes a person to be tired during the daytime? What happens when one doenst get the right amount of sleep that their body needs? We all know sleep is important for the health, well-being, and performance. A common misconception is that the average human being needs at least 8 hours of sleep everyday. This is not always the case.

On 2015, the National Sleep Foundation recommended that teens get up to 8 to 10 hours. For newborn babies, the “may be appropriate” range is from 11 to 18 hours. For seniors over 65, that range is from five to nine hours. As you can see the hours of sleep suggested varies. The amount of sleep you need depends on our body’s current needs, and generally depends on the person.

Not getting enough sleep can cause a person feel tired, exhausted, or fatigued. More symptoms include sore muscles, low energy, low motivation and mental depletion. Sleep deprivation disrupts your mood. It can trigger manic episodes with the bipolar disorder. It can even affect the microbiota that resides on or within human tissues.

This seems obvious, but sometime when a someone is sleepy, it is probably because they aren’t getting enough sleep in the nighttime. If you have ever fallen asleep during class, or on a very long car ride, then you might have a problem. This can be caused by something as simple as a bad sleep schedule, or it can be something worse like sleep apnea or narcolepsy. You can do many things to solve your excessive sleepiness, like sleeping earlier or consulting a doctor.

Getting enough sleep is very important for your health and mood. The amount of sleep needed is always different for anyone, and can change throughout your life. Keeping a consistent sleep schedule is very important and will help you get the best sleep that you need in life.

Ted talk

What we know about the human brain is always changing, and their is still so much researchers don’t know. Is it possible to fully recover from a stroke? If not, what can be done to best help stroke patients? There are many common misconceptions which are far from the truth. Neuro plasticity can help with these.
Neuro plasticity is the ability of the brain to undergo structural or physiological changes. Research has shown us that changes in the brain depend on our behavior. Changes in the brain aren’t limited by age, so it can happen anytime. Physical changes in our brain can happen by learning. For example, studies show that London taxi drivers, who have to memorize the map of London, have larger brain regions devoted to mapping memories. The more you use a brain region, it becomes easier to do over and over again. This is neuro plasticity.
So, some might wonder, that if neuro plasticity is so amazing, then why is it hard to memorize certain things, or why do children fail school. There are some limits to neuro plasticity. For example, stroke patients. The people who actually survive from strokes tend to have a very difficult time fully recovering. So far, rehabilitations have failed to find a reliable solution to help stroke patients recover, leaving them disabled. So, what can be done about this?

There is no such neuro plasticity drug that’s more effective than practice. In fact, practice leads to more learning and better structural change in the brain. There is no true recipe for learning. Some people take more practice than others. Our brains are unique, and every persons brain changes in different ways. In fact, after reading this passage, your brain is not the same.
The brain is a magnificent thing, and is constantly being shaped by the things around you. Everything you do, everything you encounter, everything you experience, will change your brain, either for the better, or for the worse. The brain will never stop changing.

Red chief

Im sure we all know that the red chief was truly a really crazy and hyper active kid, but what if he wasn’t? There are some loose strings that need to be attached but it’s possible. When I first started reading the story, I initially thought that the red chief kid was faking being crazy. It would have been a smart move to get out of the kidnapping. The red chief mentioned to the his kidnappers about how he did not want to return home. The kid could have said this so he would let the billl and sams guard down of him escaping. There are some loose strings to this tho. For example when bill was going crazy and decided to let the red chief go home, if he truly was faking his excessive behavior, then he would’ve went straight home. On the other hand if the kid wasn’t faking it, it’s very hard to believe that a kid is so dumb to not know he’s getting kidnapped. It could have been a very interesting plot twist if the red chief was faking it.
