On the night of June 8, 2020, SpaceX launched 60 more of its Starlink satellites. Starlink satellites are internet satellites that provide cheaper internet for people back on Earth. They launched from Falcon 9 Rocket in Florida. So far, SpaceX has launched 482 internet satellites into space. Elon Musk, the founder and owner of SpaceX, said that they plant to have at least 1000 satellites in orbit by the end of the year.
Some people might be concerned that all the satellites SpaceX is putting into space is going to cause light pollution. But these new Starlinks will have additional features, which will help decrease the visibility of the satellites from the ground. The installed visors called VisorSat work by preventing sunlight from reflecting off of the satellite. But there is still a problem. Scientists and others are complaining that the satellites are blocking their view of the stars and the sky. They also say that their telescopes on the ground aren’t working as well because of the satellites.
The reason Elon Musk is sending all of these Starlinks into space is to provide internet at a lower and more affordable cost. Eventually, internet will be available everywhere all over the globe. This provides a great opportunity for people who live in secluded or poorer areas to be able to access the internet. Soon, everyone will be able to search things up or connect with others through the internet.
