Why StarLink Is Not a Good Idea

Imagine a futuristic world where high-speed internet flows through every nook and cranny on our home planet. Even the lands of Africa would be prospering with advanced technology just like Wakanda. Elon Musk’s StarLink mission will satisfy all of one’s needs. All of this seems too good to be true, and that is sadly correct. In order to determine the true value of StarLink, one has to first consider the consequences. StarLink is not a great idea because it will obscure the view of the night sky and also render Earth as a more vulnerable planet.

The article Elon Musk’s SpaceX will launch another 60 Starlink internet satellites into orbit around the Earth tonight bringing the total number to 482 highlights Elon Musk’s StarLink mission that will launch over 12,000 satellites in total to upgrade internet speeds. All of this sounds great, as this monstrous amount of satellites can provide people with better internet. Although this may be true, the satellites also block out a significant view of the sky. The article states the satellites will be visible from every point on Earth, which further worsens the problem. A considerable amount of scientists and stargazers have argued these satellites will erase the beautiful night sky previously known to mankind. Elon Musk attempts to solve this problem by using visors to limit the reflective light bouncing off of the satellites, but the article suggests the satellites will still be visible from Earth. Even though the satellites would be less bright, they could still interfere with the work of sky gazers and be misinterpreted as newly discovered stars. Furthermore, the flashy satellites will also confuse the radars on Earth and limit their range and accuracy due to the massive wall of bright satellites. It would also be more difficult to plan when to launch rockets into space because there is a much high probability of the rocket colliding with satellites. The StarLink mission would be a disaster as it produces a blockage to outer space.

Not only does StarLink block a vision of the outside world, but it also makes planet Earth more vulnerable to dangers. A diagram on the website depicts the distance at which the satellites will orbit. The distance between the core of the Earth to the crust is about 4 times wider than the distance from the crust to the satellites. With a bit of math, it is concluded that the volume of the area enclosed by the satellites is slightly over 1.9, or 1.25^3, times as spacious the volume of the Earth. This increases the risk of being hit by an asteroid over a given period of time by a whopping 90%. In this case, when an asteroid hits, there will be a 47% chance of it destroying the satellite orbits, and 53% of it hitting Earth. Both of these situations are terrible, as the first case will trash billions of dollars into the abyss, and the second case can possibly cause humans to go extinct. Additionally, satellites will theoretically increase the chances of encountering other intelligent life. These alien life forms can have the power to perform unimaginable harm to Earth. Endangering Earth is not something one should do.

Critics may argue that the mission is worth it because it can provide everyone on Earth with high-speed internet, but this viewpoint is blurred. One has to first take into account the true hidden dangers this mission possesses. Even if those aren’t deadly enough, this mission will only provide better internet to those who already have it. Some poorer regions without WiFi will still have no WiFi. It is only the places that already have WiFi whom will receive better WiFi. StarLink is not a mission to help the unfortunate, but one to help the fortunate. Only currently prosperous countries will step further, while poorer countries are still lurking behind waiting to be helped. StarLink does not provide everyone with high-speed internet.

As wondrous as StarLink seems, it is not worth it. Having a massive wall of satellites orbiting Earth will obscure the view of stargazers and also weaken the power of radars. These satellites also significantly increase the probability of a catastrophic asteroid collision or an alien encounter. Always consider something’s consequences before agreeing to it.

Why Understanding Human Needs is Important

Food is one of the most important aspects to humans Without it, mankind would have never stepped foot on Earth. Computers, video games, space ships, the great wonders, and numerous other creations would have never been heard of. In order for human survival, many aspects are needed, but many of which are still unknown. Understanding human needs can help one have more dominant control over mankind, which prepare for future events.

The article Forced Social Isolation Causes Neural Craving Similar to Hunger highlights a recent research topic about basic human needs. These experiments concluded social interaction is extremely important, as the cravings it induces is similar to hunger. Humans are social creatures, and interacting with others is crucial for survival. The article explained the fact of which showing a craving individual different pictures of their likings can significantly affect their happiness. This can help scientists build more dominance and manipulate humans, in a good way, in order to help people stay happy. Additionally, the researchers explained how altering the severity of isolation might change the effects of the patient’s mind. Altering severity includes allowing the patient to only look at social media or also interact with it, or maybe increasing the time of isolation. If these experiments were to have results, it would build an even stronger understanding of human needs. For example, suppose humans isolated who were using social media compared to those without using it did not have a large difference in their brain stimuli. When this fact is combined with the fact of which screens can harm eyes, scientists can conclude staying in isolation without social media is the healthiest option. Obviously, using social media has effects on feelings on loneliness, but there are many other scenarios out there that follow these criteria.

With the power of manipulation, scientists can help humans stay well even in the toughest of times. During the current COVID-19 pandemic, many people are struggling due to the lack of understanding of human needs relevant to isolation. If mankind had realized these effects prior to the pandemic, fewer people would be living painful lives. Since the changes of social interaction on the mind are now understand with more depth, humans will be more prepared for the next disaster having to do with isolation. Many medical experts such as Anthony Fauci agree that preparation is crucial for defeating a pandemic. Sadly, the amount of preparation and human understanding was limited prior to the pandemic, which is one reason why the United States is struggling. During the next occurrence of forced isolation, a better understanding of human needs is required for survival.

The lack of understanding of human needs surely makes up for a considerable piece of mankind’s failures. Fixing this problem can help humans have more manipulative control over ourselves, which can help one live a better life during tough times or anytime. Mahatma Gandhi once said, “The earth has everything for all human needs…” All of the human needs are waiting to be discovered one day.

Why the World Follows No Rules

One can fight through terrors of hardship, yet never have anything good happen to them. One might be spoiled and selfish, but they’re extremely lucky. Somebody probably won a lottery their first try, while another has gotten no luck for many years. The world is very mysterious. Amy Morin’s TedTalk The Secret of Becoming Mentally Strong and the article How Much Sleep Do You Really Need? show how the world follows few to no rules.

Amy Morin was a mentally strong individual who endured through the pain of losing three loved ones in just a few years. One of the many strategies to maintain mentally strong Amy told the audience is to not expect the world to pay one back. After Amy lost two family members, she thought the world could not get any worse, but it did, which furthermore lowered her mental strength. Failing in many tests does not guarantee one will pass another day. Having multiple family members die does not mean the world will pay one back. A terrible person might even be rewarded. The world can be unforgivably merciless or too kind. The truth is, the world is based highly on mere luck. Having good luck makes the world nice, while bad luck renders the world evil. Anybody of any type can have bad or good luck. A life-saving doctor might be given the worst luck, while the cruelest murderer might have good luck. The world follows no rules and is not fair.

How much sleep is required for the average human? Start at eight hours, give or take a few depending on the age. Maybe add some more time if one has a special condition. This is one of the many questions with no definite answer. The article stated how the recommended sleep time for a newborn was from 11-18 hours, and the recommended time for an elderly person was around 5-9 hours. When one takes a closer look at these numbers, it is obvious that the range is extremely high. Two people of the same age might have a 5-hour difference in their average sleep times, which might be enough time for another person. Everyone has their own sleep schedule, which will eventually change depending on the situation. During school, the amount of sleep will be a few hours less than the amount of sleep during Summer break. The world’s tendency to break rules provides no definite answer to numerous questions. How much water should one drink? How long should one exercise for? How much should one eat? Even if one follows the world’s everchanging “rules”, it is not guaranteed one will succeed.

The world is a strange place, where rules and fairness fade away. Nothing is guaranteed. Living through hardships does not say the world will smile one day. Having the perfect life does not mean it will one day curve away. There are many unanswered question, waiting to be answered, if possible. Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft, once said, “Life is not fair; get used to it.” Today, Bill Gates is one of the technological leaders of the world, and who knows if luck was on his side during his journey to success.

Possible Definitions of “A Good Man”

“Good” is a word that can be perceived in a million ways. Each perspective has one’s own view and thoughts on its meaning. One can be called good for achieving a goal or being a loyal friend. The short story A Good Man is Hard to Find written by Flannery O’ Conner is about a grandma’s perspective on her family going on a road trip, but are confronted by the Misfit who kills their entire family. Throughout the story, the grandma also calls many people a “good man”, and explains how a good man is hard to find, which is also the title. Some possible meanings of a good man according to the grandma are if the other person is worse than the grandma or the other individual has connections with the grandma.

Throughout the story, the grandma has always been extremely selfish. When Bailey, the dad of the family, was trying to fix their broken car, the grandma boasts that he is not as good as her husband. Also, when the Misfit wanted to help Bailey fix the car, the grandma immediately pointed out that he was the Misfit, thinking her decision was smart and causing his entire family to die. Thinking that oneself is smart, or superior, is also a characteristic of someone who is selfish. All of this information basically proves that the grandma is selfish. One of the main features of a selfish person their eagerness for superiority. One can be called good when in reality it is just because they are not as “good” as the grandma. The grandma called Sammy, a customer at a burger restaurant, a good man because his car was drenched in oil before. This is something to feel good about if one is selfish. The grandma also ended up calling the Misfit a good man which is because the Misfit was a criminal. Criminals obviously are bad people, but this means that a selfish individual will feel superior, one of their cravings. The interpretations of a selfish individual can often be misleading.

During their road trip, the grandma meets a man called Sammy in a burger restaurant. The grandma and Sammy have a conversation which eventually leads to them talking about how the past used to be better. Sammy and the grandma talk about something that is relevant to both of them which causes the grandma to call him a good man. Since the grandma is selfish, many people despise her and don’t enjoy talking with her. This reason causes the grandma to push even further to call Sammy a good man. As a recap, the grandma says how a good man is hard to find, which ties back into the fact that not many people like her. The grandma and the Misfit were also having a conversation about relevant topics, which caused the grandma to call him a good man. These relevant conversations create rare connections which causes the grandma to called some people a good man.

The meaning of this puzzling title can have many interpretations. The grandma might be referring to people who are worse than her, which perfectly suits her selfishness. The grandma might also just enjoy having someone talk to her and create a connection. A hard man is hard to find, or should it be called, a supporter of selfishness is hard to find.

The Irony in “The Ransom of Red Chief”

BREAKING NEWS! A fire station has been engulfed by monstrous flames and even the police station has been robbed. These are examples of irony. Nobody expects the prevention of fire to be burnt, or the catcher of thieves to be robbed. Irony is used in literature to charm certain occurrences with a bit of humor. The short story The Ransom Red Chief written by O. Henry is about two kidnappers trying to earn two thousand dollars off of a kidnapping, but end up paying the boy’s parents in order to return him. This is just one of the many ironic moments within the story. Irony is presented in the short story because the boy is not scared of the kidnapping and the boy’s village does not want him back.

To start, the boy being kidnapped is only a young ten-year-old child. Most children at this age are still slightly scared of movies of children being kidnapped. Imagine ten-year-old children being confronted by real kidnappers, they would be scared into shivers. When the boy is being kidnapped, he does not even realize that he is. Even after he was brought to a cave, he still did not realize the truth. The child ended treating his kidnappers as his best friends. Not only does the boy not realize he is being kidnapped, but he also is not scared at all and wants to play with his “enemies”. It is not an everyday occasion to see a child playing with their kidnappers. These ways of action are just the less ironic commitments of the boy. The child states how he does not like going to school and staying with his family. This information when added to the fact that he is “playing” with criminals can help one assume that the boy is acting as if he willingly wants to be kidnapped. It is truly ironic that the boy is not even a bit scared of being kidnapped, and even does not want to go back home.

When Sam, the narrator of the story who is also one of the kidnappers, goes back to the boy’s small village, he is confronted by a confusing sight. To clear some understanding, in many movies and small towns in real life, everyone knows one another, and they together are a family. Losing a member of the village breaks the powerful bonds of family between hundreds of people. This is catastrophic, as the small village attempts to avenge their lost soul. In the story, Sam says he expected angry people armed with scythes and pitchforks ready to fight. Instead of seeing the expected sight, the villagers end up not caring about the appearance of one who broke a hundred bonds. The boy has done some trouble then and now which might explain why, but simply neglecting a member of one’s community is unacceptable and ironic. Voluntary exclusion is something extremely ironic especially when the setting is a prospering village.

The art of irony is one of the key features of this short story and it adds on an admirable sense of humor for the reader to enjoy. The little boy is merely ten years old, and he is not at all frightened of his kidnappers and even wants to become friends with them. Additionally, even after the boy is kidnapped, his village does not seem to care for their loss. Bill Nye, the science guy, once said, “Humor is everywhere in that there’s irony in just about anything a human does.” Although these ironic moments in the short story seem special, one can find irony in almost everything just by taking a closer look.

Why Traditions Pass Down

Once upon a time, in a civilization a long time ago, men were burnt at temples as an offering to the gods. These people assumed that offerings would help their civilization prosper into greatness. Today, this is seen as quite unnecessary due to the advancements in technology and understanding. Although some of the past traditions have been erased, a considerable amount of more impactful traditions are still passed down from one generation to the next. The short story The Lottery written by Shirly Jackson is about an ancient tradition passed down from many centuries. This tradition, called the lottery, involves a person from a village being chosen to be stoned to death. Despite the harsh measurements of cruelty, these people still agree to continue the tradition. Traditions pass down even when considering their cruelty because they help people remember the past and also it will slowly become a habit.

In one of Jacqueline Woodson’s Ted Talks, she explained how books are used to display the story, memories, or feelings of someone’s life. The events in books are to be remembered and passed down. A tradition is similar to a book. It is an event, instead of a story, and is used as a means to pass down beliefs instead of stories. In the short story, the act of stoning one to death is still accepted because they do not want to forget it. A grumpy old man in the story always says how the tradition used to be better before, and the narrator also explains how the pieces of wood used in the tradition were replaced by wood, and the box was changed too. When these two events are placed together, it is obvious that the man does not want people to forget the tradition. Remembrance also helps people see progress. When looking back at the caveman times of killing men for help, one can see the true development of society. Not remembering the past provides nothing for people to compare their progress to. Without remembering traditions, history will also slowly start to become irrelevant because nobody cares about the past anymore, and many people only care about what happens next. Passing down traditions is important in order to remember the past.

The setting all throughout the story is composed of many occurrences such as good weather, children playing, and adults chatting. All of these lead to the fact that the village is happy for this tradition to occur, and it is just like any other day. A happy setting during a time where someone will be killed doesn’t seem so right to real-life people, but it seems absolutely normal to the characters in the story. This is because this tradition has been continued for so long in this world, it is barely even noticed. In fact, the level of noticeably is so low, even committing such a “terrible” act, stoning someone, seems normal. Additionally, even the family and friends were happy when stoning their life-long connections apart. In order for such a cruel act to even occur, it has to have meaning during its origin. The most likely cause of creation for the lottery was a way to choose someone to offer to the gods without bias. During these olden times, this way of action seemed reasonable, and as time passes on, the following generations will think the same. A few thousand years ago, the earliest humans probably did not think marriage was something normal to do, but people today see it as completely normal. People living in a future world where eating is unnecessary might think that people eating three meals a day was strange. Since humans primarily judge events based on changes, It is frightening how such a terrifying tradition can eventually become a habit.

In conclusion, most traditions will pass down forever and ever. Traditions help civilizations remember their past and their progression. Traditions might also eventually become a habit, which if it does becomes almost impossible to remove. Carlos Fuentes, a Mexican Novelist once said, “There is no creation without tradition; the ‘new’ is an infection on a proceeding form; novelty is always a variation from the past.” Without the creations of traditions, the human progression would be immeasurable and stories of the past would be forgotten.

Why Martin Luther King’s Speech Was So Powerful

Imagine somebody is accused of a murder, but the suspect does not admit himself as guilty or not guilty. The police try to persuade him into telling saying he has to go to jail and pay fines, but nothing seems to work. The police then proceeds to tell the accused that they will ask his children if he murdered someone, and it is now that the suspect turns himself in. This is just one example of the power of emotion. Love, hope, nostalgia, and friendship are a few of the most persuasive emotions known to mankind, and they can be used to create extremely compelling speeches. Martin Luther King Jr.’s I Have a Dream speech was persuasive because he used imagery and also delivered his speech with a powerful voice.

Imagery is a powerful persuasion tool. By applying imagery, the audience will feel more connected to the speaker and also feel emotional. Connecting more to the speaker allows one to truly understand how one feels. This can put the listener inside the speaker’s shoes, which allows one to see the situation on both perspectives. MLK connected to the audience by mentioning how wonderful it would be if children of all colors from all different states could be united. He also emphasized the situation of segregation in each state, which helps connect even more, and explained how much better each state would be if segregation was eliminated. This would also make the audience want to experience such wonders, which in return can persuade the opposing side. Imagery can also induce emotion to the audience, which will persuade them even more. Four of the common persuasive methods one learns in school are Logos, using numbers and statistics. Ethos, building trust and reliability; Kairos, telling them that this “deal” with go away soon; Pathos, using emotion to persuade. Many English teachers would always that Pathos is the most powerful one yet, and MLK uses pathos inside of his I Have a Dream speech. The power of imagery can only be limited by one’s imagination.

Not only did MLK use imagery, he also spoke very powerfully and strategically. MLK spoke with a unique strong vocal inflection and also used repetition. Most speakers do not speak with such a special accent, and if one compares MLK’s I Have a Dream speech to other speeches, there is an obvious difference. His accent, or voice, was unique, confident, hopeful, compelling, and clearly emotional, which are required in persuasion. Additionally, he also spoke louder and emphasized on certain regions, which helped inform the audience these regions were more important. The strategy behind MLK’s voice was to use repetition, or repeating phrases. This can not only tell the audience that the repeated phrase is important, it will also help the phrase get stuck in their heads. MLK repeated the phrase “I Have a Dream” many times during his speech. Usually, a dream symbolizes something that one wishes for. In this case, MLK dreams that people of all colors can unite. Additionally, a dream is also seen as emotional, which add on even more persuasion power. MLK engraved this emotional phrase into the audience’s minds by using repetition. Many restaurants such as McDonalds use repetition in order to make customers remember them. Some uses of repetition are “I’m lovin’ it”, and “Geico, get 15% off on car insurance in just 15 minutes.” Nobody would want to listen to a boring emotion-less talking robot.

MLK’s I Have a Dream speech was extremely powerful because he used imagery and had a compelling voice. Imagery was used to help create a connection with the audience and also induce strong emotional. A powerful voice also is emotional, and repetition can be used to highlight important details. Daniel Goleman, an author, once said that, “In a very real sense we have two minds, one that thinks and one that feels.” Many speakers manage to convince the mind that thinks, but fail to convince the mind that feels. MLK convinced both minds, of millions of individuals living in the most powerful nation.

Why Solitary Confinement Needs to be Banned

Imagine being locked up in a room the size of a bathroom, alone with nothing to do. The room is made up of thick cement walls with no windows, so communication is almost impossible. For 23 hours each day, there will be nothing to do, and this process continues for many days, months, and possibly years or even decades. This is solitary confinement torture. In the Ted Talk What Happens to People in Solitary Confinement spoken by Laura Rovner, the speaker informs humans on the true horrors of solitary confinement inside the ADX prison. This torture needs to be banned because it causes severe health problems, and makes people go insane.

Humans are social creatures. From the beginning of mankind until now, humans were always organized in groups, which allowed communication and socializing. Solitary confinement completely isolates one from this group, the group of humans. Social media is one of the key gadgets for communication, and it is taken away. The speaker explained how people locked in adjacent cells would attempt to talk by screaming through shower drains, and still see little to no success. Their constant screaming would slowly take away their ability to talk, which is another torture, and they will eventually become mute. Additionally, the enraged individuals even try band their own heads on the walls for entertainment, only to cause brain damage, which is obviously not helpful. All of the ways people in solitary confinement try to entertain themselves or communicate only lead to more torture and will cause insanity. Solitary confinement needs to be banned.

A ways of treatment capable of inducing insanity is not something one should agree to. It is one of the cruelest punishments to ever exist. The speaker stated that solitary confinement causes one to forget self-existence and avoid other humans. Forgetting self-existence causes people to perform “life-checks” on themselves to see if they are alive. These “life-checks” include harming oneself, and possible even trying to suicide, which adds more onto the list of health problems. Avoiding humans is an even more serious problem. As previously stated, humans are social creatures, and solitary confinement takes away the ability to socialize. Instead of being forced into not socializing, the poor individuals are now voluntarily performing the action defying the meaning of humans. Solitary confinement is completely mind-washing people and destroying brains. During the current COVID-19 pandemic, everyone is forced to isolate themselves in their own homes, and contact with other humans is dangerous. In this scenario, COVID-19 represents the prison. Thankfully, the world has provided mankind with social media, a form of reliable communication with friends and family. Medical workers during this pandemic have a different story. Many of them are forced to live away from their family and isolate themselves in case they contract COVID-19 from working with sick patients. All over social media, there are frightening videos of crying medical workers begging for COVID-19 to go away, similarly to prisoners begging to leave the prison. This pandemic has also engaged human avoidance, which is another terrible cause of social confinement. Even though the confinement of COVID-19 is nothing near that of real solitary confinement, people are still going insane, trying to do anything to entertain themselves. Solitary confinement is a serious problem and has to be stopped.

Some may say that people who commit such terrible crimes deserve to be tortured in solitary confinement, but this perspective is near-sighted. To clear up the understanding, many of these same people also agree to stop the death sentence. To start off, torture is much worse than a death sentence. The death sentence is quick and fast, but torture is slow. Would one rather die instantly without pain, or endure through months of merciless insanity? The decision is obvious. Additionally, even if the criminal survives solitary confinement, their brain will be seriously affected because a crime so terrible probably will result in decades of confinement. Instead of quickly killing without pain, humanity has decided to torture one’s brain with such an extent that makes people suicide.

In conclusion, solitary confinement, or should it be called pure cruelty, needs to be banned. Solitary confinement causes insanity and extreme health damage. By banning this torture, humanity can rid the suffering of millions of individuals, their hopeless friends, and family. Carl Jung, a Swiss psychiatrist, once said “The healthy man does not torture others – generally, it is the tortured who turn into tortures.” Solitary confinement is something evil that poisons the mind.

People Judge With Comparison

What’s your favorite color? Oh it’s blue! Are those peppers spicy? Nah, those aren’t spicy at all. These are all examples of personal judgment, or the amount of favor given to a specific subject. The short story Miss Awful by Arthur Cavanaugh is about a strict substitute teacher who is teaching a group of children. The group of children think the teacher is extremely evil and cruel, but in reality, the teacher is just trying to instruct them on how to be civilized. The only reason the students judged the substitute with such hate is because their original teacher is extremely nice. In many informative pieces and reality, it is obvious people judge with comparison.

The original teacher of this story is called Mrs. Wilson. Mrs. Wilson was extremely nice to the point which her students took advantage of her. Many of her students did not even complete their homework because they knew they would not be disciplined. When the substitute teacher, Ms. Orville came along, every single student thought the teacher was mean. This is because the students are accustomed to experiencing niceness, and they are comparing their two teachers. If Ms. Orville was the first teacher they ever had, they would see Ms. Orville as the middle ground. In this case, the students would think every teacher is relatively nice. In a video showcasing Elon Musk explaining tips for success, one of his reasons was to create products much better than one’s competitors. Suppose company A is an old company which everyone goes to and trusts. Then one day, company B opens up, and presents astronomically better products. To begin, most of the people would see company A as the middle ground because it is the place they always go to. Once they start buying products from company B, company A will be pushed down into the bad category, and company B will become the new middle ground. Creating a much better product is crucial in order to put weight on competitors and bring oneself into the spotlight. Not only is this concept presented in writing and videos, it is also shown all throughout real life.

Getting sick is something everyone hates. Imagine a sickness scale from 0 to 10. The larger the number, the more severe the sickness. In many of the common diseases, the severeness increases very quickly, then slowly recovers. The sick individual will keep feeling more and more sick until one has reached the peak. When their sickness progresses from 0 to 1, they say their condition is terrible, and same for when it progresses from 5 to 6. Once their condition has reached the peak and is starting to recover, they still start to say that they are feeling good. Once one considers both cases it is easy to realize that a person at sickness 6 might “feel better” than the same person at sickness 2. This occurs because the increase from 1 to 2 feels terrible, however, the decreases from 7 to 6 feels wonderful. At the San Francisco Exploratorium, there is a station that explains how people perceive temperature with comparisons. The station had three pipes with distinct temperatures. One was cold, one was at room temperature, and one was hot. When somebody places their hands on the cold pipe then moves to the RM (room temperature pipe), or when someone changes pipes from RM to hot, one feels that the RM and hot pipe, respectively, are the same temperature. Additionally, when someone transitions from the hot pipe to the RM, or from the RM to the cold pipe, one feels that the RM and the cold pipe, respectively, have the same temperatures. Additionally, Andrew Wang TM said that people judge water temperature by the temperature of the air. This is because it the water is colder than the air, one will think the water is cold, and if the water is warmer than the air, one will think the water is warmer. This can cause someone to believe a body of water at a higher temperature is colder than that of a colder temperature just by changing the temperature of the air. Also a common feeling that time is flying faster and faster each year is because of this concept. A year passing for a baby will feel much longer than a year passing for the baby’s grandmother, but in reality, they both experienced the same amount of time. These are just a few of the many ways this concept is presented in real life.

In conclusion, the way us humans judge certain occurrences is all by comparison. This concept is presented almost everywhere, from writing to videos to movies to real life. Judgment by comparison can also be deceiving in many ways. Albert Einstein is the creator of the Theory of Relativity, and says that, “Everything is relative.” When one looks closer at the Theory of Relativity, one realizes that it simply means that people judge with comparison.

The Dangers of Time Travel

Time travels allows one to go back in time and meet their parents as children, one could see George Washington, or even have a conversation with some cavemen. All of these occurrences seem wonderful until one looks at the travel restrictions. The short story A Sound of Thunder by Ray Bradbury, as long with the movie Back to the Future depicts the true dangers of time travel. It is about a hunter who wants to go back in time to hunt a dinosaur. When he returns from his trip, he realizes that he has killed a butterfly. This minor mistake caused major changes to the world he knows. Time travel is dangerous because it can cause terrifying chain reactions and create alternate timelines.

One danger of time travel is the cause of chain reactions and impossible outcomes. When the Eckel, the hunter, comes back into modern day, Everything from the English language to a presidential election has been altered, just because of a single tiny butterfly. This is caused due to the butterfly effect, or the domino effect. These ideologies mean if something is changed, it can slowly lead up to a more significant change. In the story, the tour guide also explains this chain reaction effect. He states how killing a single mouse can eliminate all of its millions of its offspring reproduced after the sixty million years. Each lost mouse also possibly contributes to a starving fox, which in turn leads to a starving lion. When the cavemen step foot on the world, the lion that they once hunted for food might have not existed, which causes him, or her, and all their offspring, including humans, to have never existed. This theory highlights how even changing a relatively microscopic event in the past can lead up to catastrophic events. These changes can also lead to an impossible outcome in time. One of the time travel paradoxes that still continues to boggle the human mind is the Grandfather Paradox. Suppose that someone goes back into time to kill their grandfather, for whatever idiotic nonsense reason. This means that their grandfather would have never met their grandmother, which means that the person’s parents were never born. The conclusion is that the person never exists. If the person never existed, then how did he kill the grandfather? This is just one of the many impossible outcomes of time travel. Traveling into the past is extremely dangerous and causes what some people call “a rip in the universe.”

Another danger of time travel is the consequence of creating another timeline, or also known as entering an alternative universe. Eckel returns from his trip, the world around him has changed in many ways, but Eckel is the only person to notice these changes because everyone else belongs inside this alternative timeline. This meant that Eckel is the only living being on the entire planet who belongs in another timeline. Creating alternative timelines is dangerous because there is no return. Trying to redo the changes seems promising at first, but one has to meet themselves in order to perform the change, which will obviously create even more alternative timelines. In the movie “Back to the Future,” a character introduces an alternative timeline by bringing a sports book displaying the outcomes of all the games. from the future into the present day. This caused someone to become extremely rich by winning all the bets, and that person was the new husband of the time traveler’s mom. In the movie, the characters simply redid their changes, but this is obviously impossible in real life. When someone from an alternative timeline enters another timeline, even interacting with anybody is dangerous. This is because before the person came back into modern day, their alternative self was acting normally inside their alternative timeline, but when they return, they will be missing the knowledge of the alternative individual, but posses information from the original timeline. Time travel is an extremely complicated and dangerous step to take.

In conclusion, humans should never time travel unless mankind somehow invents something capable of preventing changes. This is because making even the smallest change cause a catastrophic chain reaction or an impossible outcome. Additionally, time travel causes new alternative timelines to be created. Stephen Hawking once said, “If time travel is possible, where are the tourists from the future?” This famous quote might just simply prove that time travel is impossible, or it shows that humans have already time traveled, but they have not interacted with anything.
