Theme

The theme in the story The Moustache by Robert Cormier is that the main character wants to grow up quickly and decides to grow a moustache, but after visiting his grandmother at the hospital and hearing the things she told him he realizes that there is no rush to growing up and at the end of the story he shaves off his mustache  The theme is you don’t have to hurry up to get older take you time , you might not be ready to be an adult.

Moustache Symbol

The moustache represents adulthood. I think this because, when Mike went to visit his grandma at the nursing home she thought it was her husband because he had a moustache just like his grandpa had. “And he wore a moustache. I brought my hand to my face. I also wore a moustache now, of  course”. Mikes grandma got the chance to apologize to her husband, even though it wasn’t really him. Mike then left his grandma and shaved his moustache he wasn’t ready to be an adult and deal with those kind of stuff yet.

“A Sound Of Thunder” by Ray Bradbury Summary

In the year 2055, Mr. Eckels enters the office of Time Safari, Inc. This company offers safaris to the past in order to hunt dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals. While waiting for his safari guides, Eckels was expressing his relief that Keith was victorious in the recent presidential election. The official agrees that Keith is the best candidate, asserting that Deutscher would have brought about a dictatorship. He takes another moment to reflect on the danger of the expedition, hands over his check, and departs with the safari guide Mr. Travis. Eckels settles into the Time Machine alongside Travis, and two other hunters.

The Machine goes back through time, and eventually the passengers find themselves in the prehistoric past. Travis emphasizes that the travelers must not disturb the environment and hunters must stay on the Path in order to prevent stepping on any plant or animal. Crushing even the smallest life form, could change the future, not just of nature, but of human society too. Lesperance explains that they can safely shoot the specific animal he has previously marked with paint for them. Soon the T-Rex approaches with a sound of thunder. Eckels is frightened when he sees the overwhelming creature, and he wished to retreat. Lesperance tells him to wait in the Time Machine. Instead, he wanders off the path while the other hunters kill the dinosaur. Travis returns to find Eckels in the Time Machine. Realizing that Eckels walked off the path, Travis yells that his error could ruin the company and threatens to leave him behind. They leave for the future eventually and, when they arrive, Travis orders him to leave and never come back. Eckels, however, lingers for a moment, noticing that small things about the office have changed. He slumps down and, examined his boots, and finds that he has crushed a butterfly. Panicking, he asks the official about the election results and learns that Deutscher has won. After a few moments of pleading to go back and fix things, he waits in silence while Travis aims a gun at him. Eckels hears Travis click the gun’s safety, followed by a sound of thunder.

Mozart Biography

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born in Salzburg, Austria, where his father Leopold was a violinist and composer. Wolfgang (or Wolferl, as his family called him) was a child prodigy. He composed his first piece of music at age five; he had his first piece published when he was seven; and he wrote his first opera when he was twelve. By the time Wolfgang was 6, he was an excellent pianist and violinist. He and his sister Maria Anna (known as Nannerl) traveled all over Europe performing for royalty and the aristocratic elite..

As a young man, Mozart tried but failed to establish himself as a composer in Paris. He returned to Salzburg where he was briefly employed in the court of the Archbishop of Salzburg. He was restless, aware of his genius, and thought Salzburg too small for his talent. He relocated to Vienna where he met with some success. He married Constance Weber and fathered two sons. He still had a lot of trouble handling the fact that he was no longer a child prodigy. Mozart was still a musical genius, but after he stopped being an extraordinary child, people stopped making a big fuss over him.

Mozart was only 35 when he died in Vienna after a brief but unknown illness. During his short life, Mozart wrote more than 600 musical works, all of the very highest quality. His works include the operas The Marriage of FigaroDon GiovanniCosi fan tutte and The Magic Flute; the symphonies in E-flat major, G minor, and Cmajor (“Jupiter”); concertos for piano, violin, and various wind instruments; and numerous chamber pieces, works for the church, minuets and other dances, songs, and the Requiem. He composed in all different musical forms, including operas, symphonies, concertos, masses, and chamber music. Today, he is still considered a genius!

Summary and Message of “A Modest Proposal”

Summary

‘A Modest Proposal,’ begins by complaining about the sad fate of the extremely poor Irish who have to spend all their time trying to feed their large families. As a solution to the poverty in which these families are forced to live, by virtue of having so many mouths to feed, Swift suggests that these poor Irish families should sell their children to the rich English land owners.

He continues by arguing that children could be sold into a meat market as early as the age of one, giving poor families some critical cash, while sparing them the expenses of raising so many children. With 100,000 Irish children out of the population, his solution, he reasons, will also help to resolve the issues of overpopulation and unemployment in Ireland, giving the Irish economy a good boost.

‘A Modest Proposal’ ends with the argument that the practice of selling and eating children will have positive effects on Irish family morality: husbands will treat their wives with more better, and parents will value their children more. His proposal, he argues, will, if implemented, do more to solve Ireland’s complex. financial problems.

Message

I think, the Swift proposes that the country ameliorate poverty in Ireland by butchering the children of the Irish poor and selling them as food to wealthy people. Jonathan Swift’s ‘A Modest Proposal’ is a satirical essay meant to underline the problems of both the English and the Irish. Swift’s proposal more of a fierce comment on England’s exploitation of Ireland.

Elon Musk’s Impact

SpaceX, Tesla, and PayPal. Those three companies are just a few of Elon Musk’s notable accomplishments. Tesla being one of the most revolutionary cars in the world, SpaceX, which is revolutionizing the space industry, and PayPal, being the most popular online bank. Elon has done a lot of remarkable and inspiring action in his 49 years. This brings up the question, what kind of impact has Elon made?

Elon Musk Biography

Musk was born on June 28, 1971, in Pretoria, South Africa. As a child, Musk was lost in his daydreams and was very curious. Elon was 12 when he sold his first software: a game he created called Blastar. Musk was short, introverted and bookish. He was bullied until he was 15 and went through a growth spurt and learned how to defend himself with karate and wrestling. He graduated at the University of Pennsylvania with an undergraduate degree in economics and stayed for a second bachelor’s degree in physics. After leaving Penn, Musk headed to Stanford University to pursue a PhD. However, his move was timed perfectly with the Internet boom, and he dropped out of Stanford after just two days to become a part of it, he co-founded \ Zip2, a web software company, which was acquired by Compaq for $340 million in 1999. Musk then founded X.com, an online bank. It merged with Confinity in 2000, which had launched PayPal the previous year and was subsequently bought by eBay for $1.5 billion in October 2002. In May 2002, Musk founded SpaceX, an aerospace manufacturer and space transport services company, of which he is CEO and lead designer. He joined Tesla Motors, Inc. (now Tesla, Inc.), an electric vehicle manufacturer, in 2004, the year after it was founded, became its product architect, and became its CEO in October 2008. In 2006, he helped create SolarCity, a solar energy services company (now a subsidiary of Tesla). In 2015, Musk co-founded OpenAI, a nonprofit research company that aims to promote friendly artificial intelligence. In July 2016, he co-founded Neuralink, a neurotechnology company focused on developing brain–computer interfaces. In December 2016, Musk founded The Boring Company, an infrastructure and tunnel construction company focused on tunnels optimized for electric vehicles.

Elon Musk’s Global Influence

Elon Musk is the founder, CEO, CTO and chief designer of SpaceX; early investor, CEO and product architect of Tesla, Inc.; founder of The Boring Company; co-founder of Neuralink; and co-founder and initial co-chairman of OpenAI. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS) in 2018. In addition to his primary business pursuits, Musk has envisioned a high-speed transportation system known as the Hyperloop. Musk has said the goals of SpaceX, Tesla, and SolarCity revolve around his vision to “change the world and help humanity”. His goals include reducing global warming through sustainable energy production and consumption and lessening the risk of human extinction by establishing a human colony on Mars. Musk has said he hopes to send astronauts to Mars in the next 10 to 20 years. And last November, he laid out his vision for establishing a huge Red Planet colony that could one day support up to 80,000 people. Elon is revolutionizing digital currency, space flight, solar energy, and transportation. Elon had also made electric cars awesome. Now everyone wants a Tesla! Musk’s interest in electric cars stems in part from his concern about the effects of climate change, so it makes sense that he’s involved with a big renewable-energy venture. Musk serves as chairman of SolarCity, which designs and installs clean-energy systems for households, businesses, universities and other organizations.

Conclusion

Elon has inspired many of people, and has done incredible things. Whether it’s digital payment technology, space travel, electric cars, or solar power advancements, Musk’s innovations profoundly impact our daily lives.

The Importance of Sleep

What are some things you do on a daily basis? Eat, brush your teeth, read, but most importantly sleep. According to Scientific American, “You can only live seven days without sleep.” However, why is sleep so important?

What Does Sleep Do?

Sleep plays an important role in your physical health. Stay Alert. Good sleep allows your mind to regain focus and tackle those tricky mental challenges. It can also stimulate creativity. Boost Memory. Sleeping is the most important time to shape memories and make the connections between events, feelings and experiences. In fact, sleep is a requirement to form new learning and memory pathways in the brain. Fight Infection. Sleep is your body’s mechanism to ward off infection. When you don’t get enough, your immune system is weaker, making you more susceptible to illness. Be Active. Energy levels after healthy sleep are higher, and your mental awareness is more acute. Good sleep is also tied to improved athletic performance, including greater speed, agility and reflexes. Replenish. During sleep, your body repairs the damage caused by stress, and other harmful exposure, as well as muscle injuries (etc.)

Misconceptions About Sleep

One misconception about sleep is that a person can’t just accumulate sleep deprivation and then log many hours of sleep to make up for it although paying back “sleep debt” is always a good idea if you’re sleep deprived, the best sleep habits are consistent, healthy routines that allow all of us, regardless of our age, to meet our sleep needs every night, and keep on top of life’s challenges every day. Another misconception is getting just 1 hour less per night than you need doesn’t affect your daytime functioning. While you may not feel noticeably sleepier during the day, even losing an hour of sleep can affect your ability to think properly and respond quickly.

How much sleep do we need?

If sleep is so important, how much do we need? Healthy sleep is critical for everyone, since we all need to retain information and learn skills to thrive in life. Sleep requirements vary from person to person. How much sleep you need will vary depending on your age and especially by lifestyle and health. Children tend sleep more than older people. While adults need 7-9 hours of sleep per night, babies need roughly 11 to 14 hours, school age children between 9 and 11, and teenagers between 8 and 10. During these critical periods of growth and learning, younger people need a heavy dose of slumber for optimal development and alertness.

Conclusion

In conclusion, sleep is a very important factor. You must sleep to stay healthy and active.

The Ransom of Red Chief Summary and Theme

Bill and Sam, two outlaws, are seeking for an effortless two grand, “to pull of a fraudulent town-lot scheme in Western Illinois with.” The two conceive a plan to kidnap and ransom Johnny, a 10 year old son of Ebenezer Dorset, a rather wealthy figure. They kidnap the youngling and take him to a cave hideout, however Johnny begins to abuse the men. In his fantasy game of Cowboys and Indians, calling himself “Red Chief” the boy drives both men crazy, notably Bill. With ridiculous foolishness, childish demands and mild physical abuse, the boy demands they entertain him, refusing to return to his home even when they release him from his captivity out of desperation to be rid of his outrageous behavior. The criminals write a ransom letter to “Red Chief’s ” father, decreasing the previous ransom form two thousand to one thousand five hundred. Unfortunately Dorset, knows the boy is a terror and rejects his offer. Dorset decides to propose that he will take the boy from them if they pay him two hundred fifty dollars. Bruised, disheartened, and their hopes reduced by the trials of parenting, Bill and Sam hand over the cash and trick the despondent boy into returning to his wealthy family. Dorset restrains Johnny long enough for the outlaws to depart from town and run away.

I think the theme is , the danger of trying to take the simple way out. Bill and Sam, ”needed just two thousand dollars more to pull off a fraudulent town-lot scheme in Western Illinois with.” Working hard instead of running scams probably never occurred to these two, but as it turns out, kidnapping is not as easy as they imagined it to be. The barbarian child that they decide to take ends up being hard, if not impossible, to handle. In the end, they must pay the boy’s father to take him off their hands. After a few days of babysitting Johnny, Bill and Sam end up backwards financially. Perhaps there is no easy way to financial success .

Why Was “I have A Dream” Speech Important?

The “I Have a Dream” speech, delivered by Martin Luther King, Jr. before a crowd of some 250,000 people at the 1963 March on Washington, remains one of the most famous speeches in history. Weaving in references to the country’s Founding Fathers and the Bible, King used universal themes to depict the struggles of African Americans before closing with an improvised riff on his dreams of equality. The eloquent speech was immediately recognized as a highlight of the successful protest, and has endured as one of the signature moments of the civil rights movement.

The 1950s, 1960s and 1970s were tremendously difficult times for African-Americans. They were not treated like white Americans simply because of their skin color. And the laws protected the bad treatment they got. Laws requiring “separate” hotels, restaurants, schools, and even drinking fountains were common in many states. Martin Luther King was a leader in the Civil Rights Movement, a drive to get more equal treatment for all Americans, not just white Americans.

This speech was important in several ways:

  • It brought even greater attention to the Civil Rights Movement, which had been going on for many years. King’s speech was part of the March on Washington, a gathering of more than 250,000 people in the nation’s capital. African-Americans still were not treated as equals. Marches like this one and ones earlier in Detroit and other cities called attention to this fact.
  • The speech was given in the shadow of the Lincoln Memorial, the monument honoring President Abraham Lincoln, who issued the Emancipation Proclamation, which freed slaves in the Southern states. By giving his speech there, King was wanting to call attention to how things were so terrible a century before (during the Civil War) and how some things hadn’t changed so very much in 100 years.
  • It brought Martin Luther King and his message of non-violence to a nationwide (and worldwide) audience. The speech was carried on radio and was reprinted in newspapers and magazines all over the United States and all over the world. After this speech, the name Martin Luther King was known to many more people than before.
  • It made Congress move faster in passing the Civil Rights Act. This set of laws was finally passed the next year, in 1964. Many of these laws gave African-Americans more equal treatment than they ever had before.

Martin Luther King continued to speak out for civil rights and for nonviolence. Sadly, he was killed in 1968. Remembered for its powerful imagery and its repetition of a simple and memorable phrase, King’s “I Have a Dream” speech has endured as a signature moment of the civil rights struggle, and a crowning achievement of one of the movement’s most famous faces. The Library of Congress added the speech to the National Recording Registry in 2002, and the following year the National Park Service dedicated an inscribed marble slab to mark the spot where King stood that day. The memory of his famous “I Have a Dream” speech and the message it contains live on.

Why is Graphene Important?

In the year 2004, Professor Sir Andre Geim and Professor Sir Kostya Novoselov of the University of Manchester discovered and isolated a single atomic layer of carbon for the first time. This is called graphene. The pair received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2010 in recognition of their breakthrough. However, why was the discovery of Graphene so important?

How was Graphene Discovered

Graphene is a fullerene consisting of bonded carbon atoms in sheet form one atom thick. Graphene was discovered using the ‘Scotch Tape method’. The ‘Scotch tape method’ used at Manchester was so simple and effective that this area of science grew extremely quickly, and now hundreds of laboratories around the world deal with different aspects of graphene research. Also known as the micromechanical cleavage technique, the Scotch tape method does not require large investments or complicated equipment, which has helped to broaden the geography of graphene science considerably.

Pros of Graphene

  • It  is  the  thinnest  material  known  and  with  that  also  the strongest.
  • It  consists   of  a  single  layer  of  carbon  atoms  and  is  both  pliable  and transparent.
  • It is a superb conductor of both heat and electricity.
  • It  is  used  in  the  production  of  high  speed  electronic  devices  responsible  for  fast  technological  changes.
  • Chemical sensors effective at detecting explosives.
  • Membranes for more efficient separation of gases. These  membranes  are  made  from  sheets  from  which  Nano scale  pores  have  been created.
  • Transistors  that  operate  at  higher  frequency  as  compared  to  others.
  • It  has  led  to  the  production  of  lower  costs  of  display  screens  in  mobile  devices  by  replacing  indium-based  electrodes  in  organic  light  emitting  diodes(OLED)  which  also  lower  power  consumption.
  • Used in the production of lithium-ion batteries that recharge faster. These batteries use graphene on the anode surface.
  • Storing Hydrogen for fuel cell powered cars.
  • Low  cost  water  desalination  by  using  graphene-with  holes  the  size  of  a  nanometer  to  remove  ions  from  water.

Cons of Graphene

  • Being  a  great  conductor  of  electricity, although it  doesn’t  have  a  band  gap (can’t  be  switched  off). Scientists are working on rectifying this.
  • The  main  disadvantage  of  graphene  as  a  catalyst  is  its  susceptibility  to  oxidative  environments.
  • Research has proven that graphene exhibits some toxic qualities. Scientists  discovered  that  graphene  features  jagged  edges  that  can  easily  pierce  cell  membranes,  allowing  it  to  enter  into  the  cell  and  disrupt  normal  functions.
  • It is a long process to make Graphene based products
  • Costly

Graphene based Products

  • Ultra-fast charging of batteries.
  • Collection of radioactive waste for easier clean-up.
  • Faster flash memory.
  • Stronger and better-balanced tools and sporting equipment, such as tennis racquets.

Although there cons to Graphene there are many pros too. Technology is evolving and our knowledge is expanding. In conclusion, Graphene is an important element that can lead too many important and extraordinary products.

Mozart vs. Beethoven

Intro

In the years of 1730-1820, a new era of music formed, called the Classical Era. Many of the greatest composers that we know were introduced, such as Mozart and Beethoven. Both were incredibly talented phenomenons, but who was superior?

Mozart‘s Music

Mention Mozart to anyone who loves classical music, or is familiar, at least, with the concept of “The Mozart effect,” and you’re bound to hear people bandy about various famous works that have appeared in movies, been recorded countless times by equally countless ensembles, and so on. Case in point: if you listen first to Bach’s pieces, which are quite heavy and ponderous with lots of counterpoints, and then move to Mozart, you’ll hear a subtle-yet-pronounced shift to a lighter, clearer melody-and-harmony construct, the one we’re more familiar with these days. That said, counterpoint was not totally shunted aside during Mozart’s time, but instead of a heavier, more serious sound, a lighter, merrier tone became the fashion, especially by the time Mozart put quill to parchment. Indeed, it’s clear that he capitalized on it, particularly with his work “Marriage of Figaro.”Of course, “Marriage of Figaro” only scratches the surface. He’s famous for having composed multitudes of pieces, ranging from opera to concertos, sonatas, and symphonies. The amazing thing about Mozart is that each piece is unique while having an overarching style that’s recognizable according to the period during which he was most prolific.

The effect Mozart has had on Western classical music is such that the field of psychology made something of a big deal out of the concept that if a person listens to Mozart, it supposedly raises one’s IQ. This theory was certainly tested in the realm of the way babies’ brains develop, and many parents do dream of raising a child as brainy and gifted as Mozart was. Now, whether your child will actually turn into a genius by listening to classical music overall is still up for some debate. But introducing your child to music such as Mozart’s could certainly increase the likelihood of your child feeling generally happier, given the merry nature of Mozart’s work. And when the children are happy, it does tend to leak over into the parents’ world, and vice versa. My mother made me watch “Little Einstein” when I was younger, and in that show, it played an abundant amount of Mozart pieces. So go ahead, throw a little Mozart on in the background during your morning rush to work or school and see how everyone feels.

Now, let’s turn the topic to Beethoven, another legendary composer whose work you just can’t mistake for anyone else’s.

Beethoven’s Music

Anyone who knows anything about this truly “immortal” composer knows that Ludwig van Beethoven suffered multiple personal hardships, yet kept composing in spite of them all. Those who dig a bit deeper know that when he truly began writing music, he composed in Mozart’s shadow, creating works that would have done Wolfgang much credit. Ironically, Beethoven never truly set out to be a composer for the sake of being a composer. Instead, he mostly concentrated on studying others’ works and performing them, which is a discipline at which he excelled. He just happened to fall into the composition, more or less, but ended up truly pursuing the discipline under the instruction of Franz Joseph Haydn, who was Mozart’s contemporary.

Beethoven’s music has a shocking and exiting tone. While, the melody of his compositions are very complicated and dramatic. His work ranges over a long period of time, but much of his more well-known work was written in the latter part of his life. One such work is the Missa Solemnis as well as the ever-famous 9th Symphony, which includes the choral tapestry of sound that is the An Die Freude, aka “Ode to Joy.” Additionally, if you’re a fan of his compositions for strings, try out his String Quartet #14. It contains seven linked movements that continue on without a break. Of course, there are always his delightful piano works, two of which are the famous “Moonlight Sonata,” and “Fur Elise.” Historians have long debated who the “Elise” was to whom Beethoven was referring, but they’ve narrowed it down to a very probably three young ladies of whom he was enamored.

Mozart vs Beethoven?

Mozart, as we’ve stated before, is often light, airy and cheerful. Even his more serious work, Ave Verum, has a “floating” feeling that makes the listener feel lighter in spirit by the end of the piece. Beethoven, on the other hand, wrote music that is extremely reflective of his own stormy, fiery genius (Symphony #5) as well as his love of nature (Symphony #6, the “Pastoral”). Some people suggest he was bipolar, which might lend some credence to a certain despondent air in some of his work. On the other hand, his life trials and the accompanying stress make it difficult to discern the truth for sure.

Whatever the source of his inspiration, or at least, the need to express in musical form any emotional happiness or turmoil, Beethoven, like Mozart, has left a delightfully indelible, passionate mark on people’s experience of classical music. Western classical music is one of the best bedrocks of education and inspiration a 21st-century musician can have, especially with Mozart and Beethoven influencing just about everyone who hears them. It could be said that, now, more than ever, we need music to soothe quite a number of grieving, unhappy souls, and unite people in defiance of those who seek to divide. This can be achieved through Mozart’s lilting, amusing minuets, his rip-roaring opera “Marriage of Figaro” or his joyous “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik,” among many other works. Or healing can be found through the fiery emotional catharsis Beethoven’s work provides, via the Missa Solemnis, or his wistful “Moonlight Sonata,” and of course, Symphony #9.

But whatever composer you choose for your daily dose of musical bliss, catharsis, or both, be comforted that these two legends and their music are not going away anytime soon.
