The person in the ted talk I watched today says that solitary confinement is bad because it is torture. I however have a different opinion on this. I think that solitary confinement is useful for people like terrorist or mass shooters.

The reason I think that solitary confinement is useful is because if you give them a regular punishment like a month in jail then once they get out they will just make more trouble knowing that they won’t get any serious punishment. This is backed up by a person who also made a ted talk and he was a gang member. He went to jail many times but still committed crimes . But if the crimes were really bad then they could just execute them.

If the the crime wasn’t so bad then they could put them in solitary confinement but send a guard to talk to them once a day so they still have to suffer some pain but still get to be in touch with the outside world. Another thing they could do is just send them to regular prison.

This is why I think solitary confinement is useful and why people should use it.

The short story, A MODEST PROPOSAL by Dr. Jonathan Swift is interesting. I liked some parts and didn’t like some parts.

The thing I liked is how well the tells us how things happen. The reason I think this is because the book tells us how the main character calculates how mutch poor babies there will be. The book says “I calculate there may be about two hundred thousand couple whose wives are breeders; from which number I subtract thirty thousand couple, who are able to maintain their own children, (although I apprehend9
there cannot be so many, under the present distresses of the kingdom) but this being granted, there will remain an hundred and seventy thousand breeders. I again subtract fifty thousand, for those women who miscarry, or whose children die by accident or disease within the year. There only remain an hundred and twenty thousand children of poor parents annually born

The thing I don’t like about the story is that it is really hard to understand. The reason I think this is because it uses a lot of hard vocabulary. some examples of them are, professed, importuning, and sustenance.

This is what I think about the short story, A MODEST PROPOSAL by Dr. Jonathan Swift.

The short story, the landlady was a very interesting story and I liked everything about it.

The first reason I liked the story is that it describes how things look very well. The reason I think this is because the story says ” He was wearing a new navy-blue overcoat, a new brown trilby hat, and a new brown suit”. This quote describes what the character looks like.

The second reason I liked the book is that it makes you want to keep reading the story. The reason I think this is because it starts with a cliff hanger and in the middle of every cliff hanger there is always another cliff hanger.

This is why I like the short story, The Landlady by Roald Dahl.

The short story, Seventh Grade by Gary Soto is an interesting story. I liked all the parts.

The first thing I liked about the story is that it describes why the characters do what they do very well. I think this because when the french teacher does not tell Trissa that Victor was saying fake french after that the book says “He remembered his college years when he dated a girlfri0end in
borrowed cars. She thought he was rich because each time
he picked her up he had a different car. It was fun until he
had spent all his money on her and had to write home to his
parents because he was broke.”

The second thing I like about the short story is that It describes what the characters are doing very well. The reason I think this is because when it says that Victor was looking around for Trissa it tells us how he does it, “He lowered his eyes, pretending to study, then looked slowly to the left. No Teresa. He turned a page in the book and stared at some math problems that scared him because he knew he would have to do them eventually. He looked at the right. Still no sign of her. He stretched out lazily in an
attempt to disguise his snooping.”

This is why I think the short story , Seventh Grade by Gary Soto is a very good story.

I have many thoughts on the short story, Rules of the Game. I like some parts and don’t like some parts.

The first thing I like about the story is that it was way more realistic than the other stories. I think this is more realistic than the other stories because the this one did not have any exarated parts nor did it have any parts that have a super low chance of happening.

The second thing I liked about the story is that it discribes what the characters are doing very well. One example of this happening is when she is at the church and it says what each of the people are doing.

The thing I don’t like about the story is that it it doesn’t really tell us how any of the buildings look like. For example the story talks a lot about a restrant but dosen’t really say what it looks like.

These are my thoughts on the short story, Rules of the Game by Amy Tan.

I have many thoughts on the short story, A Good Man is Hard to Find. I like some parts and don’t like some parts.

The first thing I liked about the story is that it describes what each of the characters are like. One example is how the the story says the grandma is always trying to get what she wants even if the others don’t want it. So by this we can tell that the grandma is selfish. The second thing I liked about the story is that it was kind of creepy. The reason I think this is because the family is going on a vacation and based on the stories we have been reading for the last few days something bad related to guns is going to happen.

The reason I don’t like the story is because it was a bit easy to predict what was going to happen in the end. I think this because the story was always talking about the bandit so it was kind of easy to see that he was going to come.

These are my thoughts on the short story , A Good Man is Hard to Find by O’Connor.
