“The Ransom of the Red Chief” is a short story about two men who decide to kidnap a child and hold him for ransom. However, the child is very rambunctious and energetic, so the men quickly get tired of needing to play with him. Also, the child is a bit violent and hurts one of the men, Bill, while they were playing. The narrator, Sam, writes a letter to the boy’s father, demanding $1,500 in exchange for the boy. When the men receive his reply, the boy’s father has them pay him $250 each in exchange for the boy’s father taking the boy off their hands. Bill immediately agrees, as he is the one who is feeling the most suffering, and he hightails out of there leaving the Sam to catch up.

I think this is a very funny story, and I enjoyed it very much. I could imagine the little boy and the robbers cooped up in a cave together, and envision him driving the men up a wall with his shenanigans.

I sympathize more for the robbers, because even though they were the ones who kidnapped the boy, the boy still acts like he is in charge. He makes them play games with him, and plays in a rough way. I think the robbers didn’t really know think things through when they decided to kidnap such a handful. Of course I feel slightly bad for the boy, but he is treated reasonably well and seemed to have a really great time playing and camping in the cave.

My interpretation of the theme is don’t bite off more than you can chew. I think this is pretty clear, as the men definitely bit off more than they could chew when they kidnapped the kid. They should have planned and researched more, because if they did they wouldn’t have kidnapped a hard-to-handle kid. Instead, they would have kidnapped an easier target.

I would recommend this story because it’s very funny and enjoyable, and also because it is very easy to understand. The characters have funny and unique personalities, plus the plot is very good.

In conclusion, ” The Ransom of the Red Chief” is a very good read and I definitely think you should read it.

The coronavirus was a new virus in 2020 the coronavirus started in China by a Bat (I think). People didn’t listen because they thought that it would only stay in China so they got careless and now the Coronavirus is in the entire world.

Now we did the background part of the story now we are in lock down and everyone is afraid to go outside so everyone just bought what ever hey could eat and ran to the house. Now if we go on streets we can see nothing but roads and closed doors. Everyone is in lock down so if this coronavirus is here foe more than a year is could get bad because the farmers could get sick one by one until none are left.

The coronavirus is a scary thing but even if things are scary we could learn important lessons.

In this story, I think that Johnny had higher ground instead of the criminals because he was using them as donkeys and he had cauterized one of Bill’s hand. On the other hand, the criminals gave him food a place to live and didn’t physically hurt him.

I still don’t blame Johnny for being mean to the criminals because I think he just wanted to play with them. Though I think the criminals got what they deserved because they are not supposed to kidnap anyone just for the ransom because it is not polite and it is also a crime.

I think the author of this story was teaching us a life lesson. It is to never do anything bad or else carma will get you!!! 😀

Counting Coronavirus deaths is hard; one has to figure out whether the patient died from COVID or from a disease caused by COVID or the patient died with COVID.

I think the main reason why government officials count COVID-19 deaths is to see the chance of one with COVID of dying. Usually, officials have medical examiners confirm COVID-19 deaths to create more uniformity and clearer documentation.  Also, I think counting COVID deaths can help doctors know where they need to help, and where they do not need to help.

What I think about the TED Talk for our lesson today “The Art of Being yourself.” Caroline McHugh talked about how being yourself is very important in a lot of ways. Superiority, interiority and inferiority. Those are the ways you think about others and what they think about you. 

        Superiority, superiority means you think you are the most important person in the room. Which means you think you are the person in the center of attention. Which may lead to bad things. Not like it will or anything. A person who thinks they are superior than they most likely is someone who, like I said , wants a center of attention. But not just that. For example if you are a 5th grader that just passed a history test which was really hard. Most likely he or she that passed wants people to think they are very smart, like i said center of attention.

Interiority, interiority means you only think about yourself. As if your friend got hurt and you wouldn’t really care because you only think about yourself and what happens to yourself. When your friend gets hurt you don’t care but when you get hurt most likely you will feel very much in pain. Even though interiority is good like minding your own business. Sometimes it may lead to danger. When I thought about this for a moment. Interiority can harm and lots of more bad stuff. Such as when your friend got a broken wrist and may cause very very bad damage. A person you think has interiority won’t specifically care since they only think about what happens to them.

Inferiority, inferiority is when you think you are bad, and weak. Having an inferiority feeling isn’t always good. Sometimes you let yourself down when  you think in a way of inferiority because when you have a good attitude it always makes your day. Just like when there is always a day where you have the perfect hair and the perfect breath and clothes you are feeling the mood.  Having that mood always makes you feel better. After that attitude keeps going you won’t feel weak or think you are bad.

So in today’s essay i talked about the three ways of being yourself. Superiority, Interiority and Inferiority. All are very different in many different unique ways. So like i said. All of those three ways is how you think of someone and how someone thinks about you.

COVID-19 has devastated the earth in the past six months and has caused a ton of deaths. But, not all people with COVID have died because of COVID, but a combination of previous underlying diseases or body issues. Because of this, we are not certain among the actual death toll caused by COVID-19. There is also the possibility that the deaths but I will get to that in a short moment. Furthermore, countries like India and Brazil, two of the top three countries in COVID deaths and cases do not have as much testing. So, can the deaths be as much as 33% more? OR can it be 16% less? Let’s find out.

First off, COVID has a death toll of an estimated 542,000. Also, the CDC made a report in 2017 that 100 million adult Americans have diabetes or prediabetes. That means around 1/4 Americans have diabetes. so, if we multiply 133,000 (amount of COVID deaths in the US) with 125%, we get 166,250. This means that there could well be an additional 33,000 deaths. But in other countries, not as much people have diabetes because Americans eat a lot of junk food.

Also, the deaths might be overcounted because they might think that a person died of COVID, but they actually died from a stroke from cholesterol build-up. This might happen because COVID helps some underlying conditions to worsen. Therefore, there is a high chance that a person died of a different cause.

Lastly, Covid deaths can be under counted because of countries not having big technological advances like India and Brazil. India has over 1.4 billion people and it ranks third on coronavirus deaths. Also, a lot of people there are livng in farms and far away from big cities and hospitals so to them it is unclear what the cause of death is. Also, the poverty there does not allow big testing sites all over India so if a village catches it, they might not even know.

To sum it up, Coronavirus deaths to me seem undercounted given the two facts I gave. There is also a small chance that Coronavirus deaths have been overcounted.

Coronavirus has swept through the United States and many schools had been shut down. Even when a pandemic like this is happening there are still many people who have been infected due to lack of testing. For example, to have an official count of coronavirus, they will have to test every one first. However, data shows that the cases in the United States are probably being undercounted rather than overcounted. There are three reasons why that has happened.

primarily, In “How are COVID-19 deaths counted?” by  Stephanie Pappas stats that. “Death certificates can be signed by a physician who was responsible for a patient who died in a hospital, which accounts for many COVID-19 deaths.” This means that the counts counted a great number of people that have died, died in a hospital. Therefore it means that a lot of people have not been counted because that did not get identified. Same with getting the vires.

following, the next reason that this has happened was that “Contributing factors such as heart disease, diabetes or high blood pressure would then be listed further down. This has led to some confusion by people arguing that the “real” cause of death was heart disease or diabetes, Aiken said, but that’s not the case.” says Stephanie Pappas. And this causes people to not count some of the cases that they knew. It also makes people believe that COVID-19 is not that dangerous.

The last reason that the counts for COVID-19 were undercounted was that the leader of a state or country sometimes does not tell the real count. The reason for that is so they will not make their country look bad. In my opinion, that was not a smart house because people need to have a consequential number, in this case, to get alerted. And understand how dangerous COVID-19 really is.

To draw things to a close, the numbers of COVID-19 counts need to be accurate to keep people alerted, so they can keep themselves safe.

I think that coronavirus deaths should be counted more carefully. I feel like if the deaths are not counted carefully, people will think that the coronavirus is not dangerous when it actually is. I see many people not practicing social distancing out in public stores. Some people also don’t wear masks in public. This is rude and harmful to themselves, because they are increasing the risk of getting the coronavirus and spreading it on to other people around them. I think that if they knew exactly how many people were dying because of it, they would be more careful.

I do know that is is sometimes hard to keep track of these deaths because the coronavirus has similar symptoms as the flu. I understand that the doctors would be busy on other patients and not have time to keep track of everyone,(I think they are overworked) but I still want the counting to be precise. I mean, why do they put the numbers if they don’t put the right ones.

Overall, I believe that doctors and medical staff are overworked and need more time to rest, but I also think that coronavirus deaths should be counted more carefully. I think this because people will think that the coronavirus is less dangerous and be reckless out in the public. Also, knowing how many people are dying will cause more people to help donate money and masks.

Death is a thing everyone fears,

It is the brother of life and rebirth.

Just like day sprouts from night,

Life springs from day.

Death is not the final word, nor is it the end,

It’s just merely a separation.

Death is inevitable, you can’t avoid it,

It’s like a kid that never wants to grow up.

When death comes, you’re released from pain, bother, and anxiety,

Just like an erne flying freely in the sky from afar.

Bill is weak! Bill is weak because in the story of the ransom of red chief, he was being beaten by a 10 year old boy that he kidnapped with Henry. First, Bill was put on the floor and Johnny(the 10 year old boy) had tried to take Bill’s scalp away and would have succeeded if Henry hadn’t stopped him.

Second, when Henry went back into the cave, he saw Bill on one side of the room breathing hard and the Johnny threatening to smash Bill with a rock half as big as a coconut. Bill would’ve been smashed to bits if Henry hadn’t stopped Johnney again.

Last but not least, Johnny drew a slingshot and got Bill with it behind the left ear and Bill gave a sign and fell into the fire across the pan of hot water for washing the dishes.

Those are a few of the reasons why Bill Driscoll is weak but it still proves why Bill Driscoll is weak.
