THE LOTTERY of death

This story is about a fictional ritual where in a town, they “sacrificed” one person for the ritual. The lottery was when the people from the town each chooses a piece of paper from a box, and the person that chooses the piece of paper with the black dot is sacrificed and essentially stoned to death. This was done so they “could have good fortune and crops”. The main people in this story is Bill, and Tessie.

When they were choosing the box, Tessie was complaining because she claimed Mr. Summer, the guy doing the hosting the lottery didn’t give Bill enough time to choose the paper. (Note that Bill was choosing a paper for Tessie) Once everybody started to open up the paper, many people got blank so they were fine. However when it got to Tessie, Tessie’s paper wasn’t blank. It had a black dot. Then they started to stone her, and Tessie’s last words were “IT WASN’T FAIR!!”.

The moral of this story is that we shouldn’t always follow according to a old tradition, especially since the tradition could be bad and we shouldn’t do it anymore like the one in the story.

The Ransom of Red Chief

“The Ransom of Red Chief” by O. Henry is a short story that is set in a town in Alabama called Summit. It portrays two kidnappers, Bill and Sam, who are trying to make a ransom off of this crime. One day, they notice a young boy throwing rocks at a kitten, and they decide that this is the perfect child to kidnap. They offer him some candy and expect him to get in the buggy with them easily, but, instead, the kid, Johnny throws a brick at Bill and hits him in the eye. When Johnny realizes where they are going, he is extremely excited to go camping and be away from his home, which is the exact opposite of what Bill and Sam expected to happen. Later, they send a letter back to Johnny’s father saying that if he pays Bill and Sam 1,500 dollars, they will return Johnny to him. After they send the letters, they quickly become fed up with Johnny. The father knows how much of a distraction and troublemaker Johnny is, so he realizes the kidnappers probably want to get rid of him. As a result, the dad tells Bill and Sam that if they pay him 250 dollars, they can return Johnny. They agree.

This short story may seem like a typical fun short story for kids, but it holds several important meanings throughout it. One theme that is revealed is, do not try to obtain money from doing wrong actions, but instead earn it from hard work. These two kidnappers were trying to get money from taking advantage of others, but in the end, they had to pay money instead of receiving money. In the real world, kidnapping is a much more significant crime than shown in the short story. People can be sentenced to jail for years, but if they worked hard, they could most likely gain the same amount of these beneficial things they are trying to obtain. If they worked hard, they would not have to face all these consequences.

Another theme that is shown is that once something is becoming a problem, don’t continue trying to keep it for a reward. Most likely, keeping this issue, for example, Johnny is probably not worth the money that comes with him. Even if they were to keep Johnny longer so that they would obtain all the money, they still wouldn’t obtain that money because Johnny’s father is okay with them taking Johnny for a few days. The outcome would probably be the same, but they would have just kept Johnny for longer, making it a hassle to them. Umm… 🙂

THE FACTS ABOUT THE CORONAVIRUS

The coronavirus is a new type of virus that has kicked off in 2020 starting in china it has spread all across the world. The cornavirus is new so the doctors haven’t had a cure for it, the doctors are going against time to try and find a cure with every day failed a few hundred people will die. Now that the world is aware that there is a deathly virus in town the spread is becoming slower and slower as people finally find out the dangers behind this virus, they might rarely go out to buy food, they might go on lock down, and in some places the coronavirus has forced some people to take down food trucks and fight over the drops.

The cornavirus death rate is unknowable because officials don’t know who died from the virus and who had it, also for some weird reason they are saying a lower death rate than what there actually is. Maybe it’s to calm down all the people or they just don’t what people to know. In my opinion the coronavirus stinks and why couldn’t it come in the summer where everyone is at home. So you may ask yourself why do you need to know about this virus well in a book I read called Fever 1988 it was about the yellow fever and that fever kinda reminds me of the cononavirus because every one was hiding in houses and trying to find food and live the fever so they started stealing and every few people were trying to help this is about all I got so I hope that you learned stuff from the coronavirus in this two short paragraph.

Lottery Paragraph

The lottery is a story where a bunch of villagers take place in a stupid lottery contest where you have 1/300 chance of death by rocks. The moral of this story isn’t very clear but I think it might be: Chances are chances It might happen to you. My first reason why I like the story because it could have been done in real like. Maybe it could have been a tradition for a certain tribe. 2. I also like the story because there’s the feeling where you don’t know if you’re going to die or not and make the story exciting.
3. I also think about how it could’ve made sense. Maybe the tribe itself had a god and the god said it needed to do a random “lottery” to decide who would die. or the people liked to see people die and set up a “lottery”
4. I also like how there’s a “question” Why would you participate in a stupid death lottery if you don’t need to?? Why would you need to risk dying for nothing?? and how there isn’t a MAIN person and that there are lots of regular people. One of the things that I don’t like about”The Lottery” is that it’s very negative and that it’s just sad.

This book is possibly good for 5th graders and above and will teach a lesson (if you can find it…) The story is negative so I wouldn’t consider this book to children. 5. why I like it is like how the book has a hidden meaning so that proves it might be a good book. The sorta main role of THIS story is Tess Hutchinson who is a little scared about the “lottery” Mr. Summers, the chooser of the paper and, and unfortunately her husband, Bill gets the black paper. And then, Tess gets the black paper and gets stoned to death will complaining ” ITS NOT FAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIR!” Another thing to learn is anyone can turn on you.

The Ransom of the Red Chief by O. Henry

The Ransom of the Red Chief is a very complex but short story, filled with many useless lessons to common folk, but might apply to kidnapees. The kidnappers, Sam and Bill, are two con men who travel the lower parts of America looking for small jobs and scores to get a bit of money, which caused their demise. They get it a job to kidnap the son of the town’s official. The actual capturing goes swimmingly, but these guys have little experience with handling kidnapees, let alone a child. The victim, Johnny, pretends to be a Native American chief, and his aggressive act soon has his abductors frightened and concerned for their own safety. Johnny makes up tales of the Native Americans’ objections nearest white men they see. Unfortunately for Bill, Sam leaves him alone with the now menacing Johnny. After a few cruel hours with Johnny, Bill is worn and torn. He composes a ransom letter demanding fifteen hundred dollars in straight cash, instead of the two thousand dollars they originally wanted. With the kid becoming more and more irritating, and Bill’s mental health plummeting, he figures it’s worth it to lose five hundred dollars to rid of that hell-born. When the ransom demands reach the town, a counteroffer is made. Sam and Bill can pay him five hundred dollars total, or else they keep the kid. Considering that their mental health and safety will fall if they choose to keep their money, they agree to the town’s terms and drop the kid off at night and bolt as fast as their middle-aged bodies can in order to get out of Johnny’s reach.

The Art of Being Yourself – Ethan Kou

In Caroline McHugh’s 2013 Ted Talk, The Art of Being Yourself, she emphasized on many ideas surrounding the fact that one should focus on their own life more, and to not spend too much time looking at others. A few of the main concepts she explained were about the ability to express oneself as one ages, the definition of interiority, and why some people are more successful than others.

Imagine a class full of 3 year olds, when someone asks them who is the strongest of them all, obviously, all of them will raise their hands and scream in acceptance. This happens because at a young age, children have not discovered what they are good at yet. Additionally, when children are younger, there are no rules which govern them. This allows them to be more free and therefore express themselves more. If someone asks the same class of 3 year olds 4 years later, the students will all point to a specific person. This is because during the 4 year period, the children will have established who is good at what. That person is good at math, those group of people are really funny, that guy over there reads all day. As people grow up, they start to compare themselves with others in order to determine their “success”. This way of action takes away independence and expressing oneself. As people get older, they will once again start to express themselves more again. This is because they know not much time is left, and they have also seen everything there is to life. Expressing themselves is the only meaningful way to spend the rest of their life until their time has come. The concept of people thinking about themselves ties into the next concept, which is about superiority, interiority, and inferiority.

Superiority is thinking you are better and more superior than everyone else. Inferiority is thinking everyone is better than you, and how you are inferior. These 2 traits both have something in common, which is they can only happen when one is being compared to others. Without comparison, it is impossible to think you are superior or inferior because there is nothing which can be compared to, which means nothing can be called good, or bad. Interiority is a completely different idea, and it is thinking only about yourself. In this world, there is no competition. People who feel interiority can do a certain task until they are satisfied, and until they want to rest. They do not need to depend on anyone else to see their progress, which allows them to be him or herself.

When you were created into the world, you were assigned a time to come, and time to go, and your talent. One who is successful has discovered the talent that they were given at birth, and they have used their talent to guide them and help them throughout their life. A human has their entire life to discover the one talent they were assigned, but many people can not find it. People who feel interiority can find their talent a lot quicker than others. This is because during the center of one’s life, people tend to think about themselves the least. What also happens during the center of one’s life is when they are discovering their talent. If people are being compared to others, they will feel the urge to become someone else, who is more successful, but also inherits a different talent. This false urge leads many down the hole of no return, where it is extremely difficult to come back and pursue their own talent. If the person was never being compared to in the first place, they would have discovered their talent without the distraction of another.

In conclusion, people should think about themselves instead of others for numerous beneficial reasons. Thinking about yourself is the key to becoming successful, happy, and living life to the fullest. As Oscar Wilde, an Irish poet once said, “Be yourself, everyone else is already taken.”

How Are Deaths from COVID Counted?

Cause of Deaths from COVID-19
Passing witnesses can be marked by a doctor who was answerable for a patient who died in a medical clinic, which represents a number of COVID-19 passings. They can also be marked by clinical doctors, who are free authorities who work for singular city/urban communities. In certain range of thought, including city communities. In those locals, clinical doctors inspect hospital records even of patients who pass on in emergency clinics to guarantee that the side effects and any testing show that the patient did to be sure die of COVID-19.

How to Detect COVID-19
Without a doubt, even at Mount Sinai, an exceptional remote system that offers every family a chance to have their valued one organ in vain, the pace of detachment was remarkably about 20% before the pandemic. As demonstrated by name, there is a constant shortage of legitimate scientists/doctors working in the United States, with around 500 at present used and necessary for 1,200. After death evaluations, COVID-19 can similarly be dangerous as a result of the overpowering thought of the disease and constant lacks of individual protective equipment for scientists/doctors.

Red Chief thingy (is this the right place??)

The Ransom of the Red Chief is a story about two idiotic criminals who attempt making money from a kidnapping ransom. These two idiots, Sam and Bill, attempt to kidnap a 10 year old kid named Johnny Dorset, instead the plan goes wrong and the two men end up paying Johnny Dorset’s father $250. This shows the importance of not being so dumb and absent minded, but actually planning ahead. If you are going to kidnap a 10 year old, you might as well do it right and not make a fool of yourself. Coming up with a plan can prevent many stupid mishaps from happening, and make you seem more smart.

The theme of ransom.

I think the theme of the story is to learn and plan out things before you do it. You can see how this backfired on Sam and Bill. They did not know the personality of Johnny and how the villagers do not like him. This is bad because they did not care that he was gone and were happy. They gets beaten up and annoyed by John. So they ended up paying $250 and giving him up.

Day 1 essay

I think that the kidnappers should have planned the kidnapping more carefully, as they ended up losing 250 dollars. Their first mistake was choosing the wrong person to kidnap. If they had chosen a more well behaved person or even observing their potential victim more carefully, they could have been more prepared for the child’s behavior. Another mistake was that they did not even think about restraining the victim, which should have been one of the first things on their minds. This mistake caused them lots of pain, both physically and mentally. Their third mistake was choosing how to write the wording of their ransom letter. This kind of ties back to their first mistake, as if they had observed the child’s behavior, it might have occurred to them that the parents might not want to receive the child. Also, if they had changed the wording of the letter from not being able to see the child again, to knowing that the child is dead, then that might have triggered a more intense response from the parents to pay the ransom. These three mistakes changed them from earning 2000 dollars to losing 250 dollars.
