NASA is already proposing a manned space mission to Mars is 2030, which is 51 years after the manned Apollo missions. Except the one main problem NASA faces is the radiation in space. It is highly dangerous to humans, the many health hazards includes cancer and radiation sickness. Humans now want to use genetic engineering to solve that problem.
Astronauts that go into space have to go through the Van Allen Radiation belt, which is energetic charged molecules captured from solar winds. Tardigrades are the only animals that humans seen that can survive in space. These micro animals have a thin powerful skin to survive. Since humans want to use Tardigrades to make humans less vulnerable to space radiation, they will use genetic engineering. They want to modify of edit our genes with Tardigrades.
