the theme of the Lottery

In the short story, the Lottery, it tells how the people of a village stone someone to death every year. It is tradition that comes once every year. The winner of the lottery is the that ends up dying. The theme is that you can not blindly follow traditions.
It takes place in a small town in contemporary America. Most of the villages have banned the lottery, but one village in the north still does it. Every year, on June of July 27th a person takes out a slip of paper. The local children prepare stones for them all, even the toddlers. The person with the name on the paper gets stoned.
In my opinion, I think the theme is you cannot blindly follow traditions without knowing the consequences. In this case, even the children are getting the stones and killing their parents. The story also tells of mob psychology. People today act cruelly just because there is a big mob doing it. When the people go stone someone, most do it because everyone else is doing it. Would you jump off a cliff if your friend did it? Also, it shows people being bad because of a group being bad.
Therefore, this is what I think of the short story, The Lottery.

“The Void”

Black hole, the place where time disappears,

The place of lost ambitions, hopelessness, and despair.

“The Ocean of Dark” is what they call it,

A blanket of blackness covered the stars.

You drift away faster and faster into the void,

Neither it’s ground nor is it the sky.

It is a pitchblack paradise, where all things were sucked in,

Tik tok, tik tok, one can’t even realize the time.

The one thing that allow humanity to discovers this whirlpool is curiosity,

I feel my soul flowing in the river of stars.

The light shattering the sky, piercing the horizon,

While the endless abyss brings darkness to your eyes.

Why it is important to study black holes (my opinion)

I personally think that the study of black holes is nessesary because that way we would know more about the galaxies outside of the earth.

I think that when scientists study black holes, they might find a way to know what place the enormous, gravatational, gap in space leads to.

This is a question that I’m also curious about, like, how is the land like in the hole, what is in it? etc.

So I really think that astronomers should study black holes and know more about it so that we could get more ideas about these huge holes.

Our Brain Affecting our Daily Activities

How does our brain affect our daily activities? Our brain affects our daily activities in many ways. Some ways are that our brain affects our mood, state of mind, self control, and memory. Brain chemicals, or neurotransmitters affect our mood or state of being that we are in. There are many types of neurotransmitters in our brain, and new ones are still being discovered. Some sever illnesses to the brain can affect your impulses and impulsive behavior.

Our brain also affects our self control. Some people can’t control what they want to and not want to do. This shows a lack on self control. Some examples of not being able to control yourselves are eating sweets in a diet. Another example is not being able to resist temptations. Having self control is an important part of our everyday lives.

The third thing that our brain affects is out memory. In my opinion, our memory is the most important thing in our daily lives. Some people have short term memory and some have long term memory. If you have short term memory, you forget more things easier. If you have long term memory, you remember more things. If you suffer from short term memory loss, you can forget things you just did, which affects you a lot because then you won’t be able to remember important events that you are supposed to remember.

Happy MONDAY

“The lottery’s almost starting!”

“Everybody! Let’s go!”

“Come on!”

As I peered out from behind some of Mrs. Hutchinson’s big bushes and trees, almost everyone else was already gathering in the center of the village. She was humming a cheerful song while scrubbing the dishes, but with a solemn look on her face, as if she was trying to cheer herself up. I watched for a few minutes, then decided to go and see what the other people were doing in the village center. My guess was the “lottery” they were talking about, but I would see for myself in a couple of minutes.

I quietly crept away, my back towards Mrs. Hutchinson. I was almost to the street when suddenly, Mrs. Hutchinson whirled around and spotted me.

“What are you doing? I know you don’t belong here.” She firmly put her hands on her hips. Trying to change the subject, I said,

“Aren’t you supposed to be in the lottery like everyone else?” I nodded towards the gathering of people not far off in the distance.

“Oh!” She frantically checked her watch, then the calendar on the wall of the kitchen. “My! It’s the twenty-seventh already! Oh, I simply cannot be late for the lottery. I hope Bill and the kids are all already there, and just waiting for me now!” She then swatted me away and scurried towards the silent gathering of people. I, curious, decided to follow along.

She glanced at me like I was crazy. “Where’s your father? Do you have a brother? Actually, do you even have a relative here? You can’t go without a person to draw for you!”

I shook my head no. She hesitated, then said, “Then if you want to come along, you’ll have to hide in the foliage again around the center and whatever you do, do not try to come out. They may try to stone you as well.”

We were almost halfway to the other villagers by now. Along the rest of the way, Mrs. Hutchinson explained the lottery to me.

“We worship a god named Little-Bunny-Foo-Foo. He is the one that makes sure our crops thrive and that we have enough food to last us the winter. Unfortunately, he likes human sacrifices, so we must hold a lottery each month to choose whoever is going to die an honored death for Little-Bunny-Foo-Foo.”

“But that’s terrible! Why can’t you just learn how to grow good crops my yourselves?” I asked, shocked.

Mrs. Hutchinson sighed. “You have no idea how hard it is without the help of Foo-Foo. Nearly half of our village died of starvation every year… and we figured losing twelve a year was better than losing one hundred and fifty.”

And at that point we arrived.

I quickly tiptoed around the center into a clump of tall plants and bushes. From there, I peeked through the branches of a magnolia tree and saw the lottery begin. I saw a man call out names, one after another, until about sixty people, scattered in the crowd of apprehensive villagers, were holding a scrap of paper, folded in half, in their hands.

Then, at the man’s direction, the sixty villagers slowly opened up their papers, and gradually, they all sighed a sigh of relief and smiled at the rest of their family. All except one… Bill. And I watched as a smaller lottery was held inside just Bill’s family and held my breath with them as they opened up their papers.

“It’s Mrs. Hutchinson.”

“It’s her… “

“It’s really Mrs. Hutchinson.”

And I watched as all of the rest of the villagers stooped down to grab the stones lying on the ground. And I couldn’t just let this happen. I couldn’t!

So I stepped out of hiding shouted at the villagers and I told them to put down the stones. I kicked the nearest one hard to make a point.

Silence.

“Stop! You don’t need to kill someone for a Little-Bunny-Foo-Foo! You–” I was cut off short by Mrs. Hutchinson.

“I told you not to come out! Why did you–“

“You know this intruder?” A man turned to look at her, raising his stone once more. Several others followed suit.

I started again. “Stop! I can show you how to plant successful crops! I know how to do it! Just follow me and let me teach you! Please! Don’t try to throw stones at one of your own when you are perfectly capable of getting food yourselves, without the help of this Foo-Foo Bunny!”

This time they peered at me with interest. They had gotten tired of killing off other families of the village just for some food. If there was an alternative, they were curious to see if it would work.

So they reluctantly let Mrs. Hutchinson go, as she was the one who let me follow her into the center.

And they all expectantly turned their attention to me.

MLK Speech

“I have a dream.” This speech had a great impact on who we are today, even though times are difficult now, he changed many live. If it weren’t for Martin Luther King Jr., then there would still be a lot of racism in the United States. The “I Have a Dream” speech, delivered by Martin Luther King, Jr. before a crowd of some 250,000 people at the 1963 March on Washington, remains one of the most famous speeches in history. Weaving in references to the country’s Founding Fathers and the Bible, King used universal themes to shows the struggles of African Americans before closing with his dreams of equality. The speech was recognized as a highlight of the successful protest, and has endured as one of the signature moments of the civil rights movement.

Before Martin Luther King’s time, colored people were always singled out and treated unfairly, even though slavery was banned. They literally had two different bathrooms, and also schools didn’t let them in. People wanted justice, but Martin Luther King Jr. was one of the most heard civil rights activist. His speech helped create a new country, with no racial discrimination, and everyone treated equally.

Essay

Racism has always been a hot topic from history to now. According to the video, Dr. King stood out for black people and appeal to America to stop racism. His voice and words were so powerful. He was very determined, maybe because he thought this issue would be solved one day. But honestly, I don’t think it solved.

As we all know, an American police “killed” an African- American several days ago. Then the revolt started. Many African- American paraded through streets. They have attracted the attention of the world and also caused some problems. In my opinion, there is no difference between people who have different colors of skin. We all live under the same blue sky, breath the same air, and share the same home, earth. We can not always have a stereotype that black people are not friendly. We can not judge a person with our first impression. Only after we know what kind of person he is, we can define he is good or not. We should treat others as friendly and fair.

All in all, I think racism is still a big problem. I hope everyone can realize there is no difference among people in the world and make a better and harmonious place together.

losing more than making more

According to satellites in space, ice sheets in Greenland and Antarctica are losing so much mass that it has been seen from space. 200 gigatons are lost every year in Greenland and 118 gigatons are lost every year in Antarctica. A gigaton is equivalent to fill 400,000 Olympic sized pools. 0.55 inches were added to sea level from 2003 to 2019. By this rate, many people living close to these places are at stake of losing their homes forever due to flooding.

Global Warming has caused many problems and without fixing it, many organisms that thrive in cold places will have harder lives. Humans will have to evacuate soon due to possible flooding in the future by sea level rising and animals will have a harder time. An example of what is going on with animals in Antarctica are penguins. Chicks would go out to practice swimming in the ocean. While they’re doing their thing, sometimes seals come and hunt for them. The chicks would need to escape, but with the large chunks of ice floating in the water, they cannot escape properly. These large chunks of ice are caused by global warming because they have slowly melted which causes chunks to form. people in the world need to take care of the environment and ecosystem for the world to thrive. Without care, life on Earth will start to decline.

Why is Global Warming a Problem?

As many people already know, global warming is a big problem to all life on Earth. However, even though a lot of people understand the consequences of global warming, they are doing nothing to fight it or slow the process down. Some individuals, especially the older generation, do not care about global warming and are leaving their problem to the future generation to fix. Hence, this essay will be talking about why global warming is an issue that everyone should be fighting against.

The effects of global warming are very damaging and harmful to the planet. It can cause more frequent and severe weather, as higher temperatures are worsening many types of disasters, including floods, heat waves, storms, and droughts. This can cause higher death rates and become a threat that impacts everyone, especially children and the elderly. Furthermore, it is not just disasters, such as storms or droughts, that are threatening people’s lives, but also the temperature. Extreme heat kills more Americans each year, on average, than hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, and lightning do.

Global warming is also melting Earth’s ice sheets at an alarming rate. This is impacting many animals that depend on the ice sheets for survival, such as polar bears or penguins. Also, all that extra water from the ice sheets are now left in the ocean, causing the water levels rise. Higher sea levels will threaten low lying areas and coastal systems, including New York, Los Angeles, and Miami.

Global warming has grave consequences for everyone on Earth, but it’s too late to turn back now. There will still be some effects from global warming even if people stopped all carbon dioxide emissions. However, if people start reducing their global emissions now, they can avoid a lot of the severe consequences that climate change could bring. People cannot wait any longer, and they must take action now, to fight against this problem. This is not just an issue for the future generation, but also for the older generation.

Equality

Martin Luther King’s speech on equality had one of the greatest impacts for the country. His famous words, “I have a dream,” reign on to this day. The protest and crowd Martin spoke for was at peace, which probably made it so memorable. There was no violence, shouting, or disrespect. Martin Luther King is a big inspiration for especially as for others who stand with the rights for equality for everyone. Unfortunately to this day, equality today is not enough. There is still a large amount of racism based on skin color and ethnicity.
This speech left a good impact, however, the wording of this speech and how Luther carried out was incredible. To start off with the main device Luther uses in his speech is his use of rhetorical device. The use of rhetorical device, which is a type of persuading that arouses emotions in the audience. Luther takes much of the past’s hardships, to get the audience to have faith and belief in what the future holds. For instance, in his speech, he includes the past of when Lincoln freed the African American Slaves as one of his examples. By using this example, he leads the audience to believe and have faith that one day, equality will come, and they will no longer suffer. The use of history plays such an important role for everyone in the audience, especially the white people, to understand after all why he is up there giving that speech.
Another remarkable part Luther included in his speech was the fact he made the white people feel what the colored experienced and how much they have gone through. How much pain they have gone through and are still going through. He did this while not insulting them at all but wanted them to understand why they should not be treated differently. One thing to acknowledge about Luther is his determination and positive outlook. As you can see in his speech, he uses the word “Now” quite a lot, and of course, the term, “I have a dream.” These two powerful statements lead the audience to see how important this is. This speech was not for the purpose of fighting against the white people but working with them starting now. Equality varies in many ways, but the biggest part of believing equality is acceptance and knowing everyone is equal instead of believing everyone is equal. Luther is an inspiration and his speech should be remembered forever
