What would you do if you are open to two opinions and both of them would not have a good ending? The short story The Lady or the Tiger by Frank R. Stockton is a story about choosing between to bad choices. There was this king in this kingdom that likes to punish the prisoners to let them choose between two doors. Through one door is a women, if the men opens that door, he is free and has to marry to the women. Through the other door, is a tiger that would kill the person as soon as he comes out. The king has a daughter that likes a men at the lowest class, so the king decides to punish him with his punishment. The princess knows which door leads to which, but the author didn’t say which one she lead the men to. I think the princess would lead the men to the women’s door. This is because as long as the men is still living, they could still think of other ideas. And because even if the princess doesn’t like that the men is getting someone else as his bride, she should also save someone’s life.
Why the princess should lead the men to the women’s door is because as long as he is still living, they could still think of other ideas. If the men is still living, he and the princess could think of other ideas to be together. For example, they could help the women find someone else to marry to and run away together. Or they could talk to the king later on and make him change his min, even though it has a really small possibility. Even though the princess won’t want the men to die, she should still save him. This is because if she didn’t save him, the princess is kind of another person that killed him. Plus, if the men died, won’t the princess be sad since it’s her love.
These reasons cause me to think that the princess would save the men and lead him to the door to the women. The princess would still want him to live rather then dying. Rather then knowing to kill him, I think the princess would like to make him live longer and think of other ideas. As long as he is living, the men and the princess could also talk to the king about his way of punishing.
