In the story, the king has created a new trial for criminals. They enter an arena and choose between two doors. One door has a lady the criminal will marry, and the other is a tiger who will kill the criminal. So there is no justice, the criminals live or die by chance. The king created this method so he and his subjects could have some entertainment.
The princess falls in love with a young man, and the king disapproves of their relationship. So he puts the man in the arena. The princess loves him, but she isn’t the lady behind the door. She knows which door is which and can help the young man survive. She points him to the door on his right. Then the story ends.
If she pointed him towards the door with the tiger, he will die. She will never see him again and lose him forever. If she pointed him towards the door with the lady, he will have to marry the lady and not the princess. The princess will not be able to marry him also, but he will still be alive. Either way, she loses him, but she can save his life.
