{"id":7870,"date":"2020-06-12T01:42:26","date_gmt":"2020-06-12T01:42:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sunnyyouth.org\/blogs\/?p=7870"},"modified":"2020-06-12T01:42:26","modified_gmt":"2020-06-12T01:42:26","slug":"my-best-attempt-at-a-poem-okay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sunnyyouth.org\/blogs\/my-best-attempt-at-a-poem-okay\/","title":{"rendered":"My Best Attempt At a Poem, Okay?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f8f5ec\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<pre class=\"wp-block-verse\">Dee's coming.\nA cold shiver of nervousness slowly travels up my body.\nI remember when we were younger\nWhen she didn't <em>care<\/em> that we weren't rich\nAnd we would happily splash around in the mud\nNot caring if our clothes got dirty, \nHaving a great time.\nA great time--until some businessmen \nIn spotless, black suits\nInterrupted us when they saw Dee's <em>potential<\/em>.\n\nLonging filled my heart when Dee waved good-bye and \nHeaded off to college by herself.\n\nAnd now, she's coming back again.\nCautiously, I step outside and\nWait for good old Dee to come and greet me.\n\nBut Dee isn't here.\nI see a girl in a magnificent orange dress\nGold earrings\nBracelets\nAnd fancy hair.\n\n\nShe quietly picks up our butter churn and examines it.\nHer expression changes.\n\nInstead of moving on, she grabs the churn and takes it\nSaying something about new decoration.\nBut that's Uncle's butter churn.\nA tiny sliver of annoyance enters my mind.\nI push it away and continue looking at the girl.\n\nShe turns to Grandmother Dee's dear quilt and snatches it.\nI want to take it back but I can't. \nMama reaches out to stroke the quilt\nBut the girl holds it away from my mother too.\nIt was supposed to be my gift and Mama seems to realize that too.\nThe girl tells Mama that she took it \nBecause I wouldn't appreciate it enough.\n\nI hide my fury by turning away from the girl and my mother\nAnd I start walking back to the house.\n\"She can have them, Mama\"\nI mumbled. \n\nThen she grabs the quilt from the girl and dumps it on me. \nI can see a tear form in the corner of her eye.\nI say, \n\"That's not Dee.\"\nShe says,\n\"I know.\"<\/pre>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dee&#8217;s coming.
